Just couldn't pull up and wait for that Flounder sandwich. Thought it would be quicker to catch their own.

There are two guys up in heaven who just shouted, "Hold my beer."
They remember when their outboard motor backfired, and the backfire blew the cowling off their motor. They panicked and jumped into Pontchartrain, and only then remembered that they weren't wearing their PFDs, and that neither could swim.

Honestly didn’t know you could sink a pontoon boat unless you knocked a hole in the floats

Can you imagine how embarrassing that chopper ride was for the boaters?

Especially on a lake. I could see this in the Gulf, obviously but never really think about a lake causing a boat to capsize.

Honestly... Surprised.

Pontoon boats are way more capable in rough water than I ever thought possible

Agreed. My impression of a pontoon was as long as the pontoons were in good shape they would float.

I figured water just washed onto and off of the deck but there was not a lot of places in the boat to hold water and flood.

Yesterday , here in Cut Off, we had sustained winds of 25-30 with an occasional gust to 40 or so. There is no way in hell I would venture out into an large body of water with that kind of wind in a small craft of any kind. Lake Pontchartrain is very shallow for such a large lake and it kicks up big waves quick.
Hell, I remember some idiot that tried to cross Catfish Lake in Golden Meadow after a front like we just had, in a 12 ft. Aluminum boat. They found him near Leeville about a week later with 2 PFDs on and dead as a hammer. He didn’t drown though hypothermia got him.
So strong wind, big water and small boats do not mix!!

Again, it’s not a pontoon boat, you can tell by the total absence of pontoons!

Honestly didn't realize that was a bad idea. Are Pontoons unstable in choppy water? They sit so high and buoyant.
I do appreciate the lake is highly unpredictable and dangerous as two friends drowned in Lake Pontchartrain in freak accidents in the last 5 years.

ETA: just looked at pics closely. That's not a pontoon boat. Now it makes more sense.

The unasked question so far, why didn't the picture taker rescue them?

Look at the picture closer, and you'll see it has a fiberglass hull, not aluminum pontoons. That fiberglass hull probably filled with water if the plug wasn't in, or water came over the deck.
