57 percent say they tip 15 percent or less at sit down restaurants.

Young people tip more than older ones.

i hover around 20%, smaller bills i'm closer to 30% tip and larger bills probably 18%

my bank is constantly emailing me asking if i meant to tip 50% or 100% on bills that are like $13

I'd love to see the demographics on this one.

They said that the younger people tip more. No other breakdown given.

I tip even if it's subpar service. However, it goes up depending on the quality of service. Good service normally equals 20%. Good service plus a hot chick and it goes up to 25.

I tip 20% if the service is good.

At order from the cashier restaurant and they hand me my food in a bag - 0%.

Same at a bar of the girl simply hands me a beer. - 0%. I’m already paying $5 for a Miller Lite. I’m not giving you an extra dollar.

Not sure why 15% became 18% and then 20%+. It’s also expected before service more which makes no sense. You get tipped for work performed. If you don’t perform you don’t get tipped.

I pretty much always tip 20% at a minimum when sitting down at a restaurant. If I’m getting to-go food I tip $1 per item that needs to be boxed. We’re a family of 5 so typically that puts me tipping $5 no matter how much the food costs.

Hell, after having a few drinks with dinner a couple weeks ago I fricked the total up on a receipt that had the percentage broken down for me.
I looked at the receipt a few days later and my math was completely dickered, but it was to my side and not way higher.

My bank doesn’t do that but I’ve got pretty consistent on nicer meals being 20%+ if the service is genuinely good. I fought it for a while but i know I’m struggling in this economy but making enough to help.

That being said, if you flip the kiosk around or hand me a tablet and say “it’s going to ask you a few questions.” It’s going to be $1-2 tip max.

That’s because Boomers and Gen Xers were taught that 15% was the norm. 18% became the norm when sales tax became 9% and it was easier to double the tax rather than calculate 15% in your head.

With these dumb arse machines that you have to pay with the server standing at the table the % will continue to creep up. So servers will get a raise from inflation plus a higher %.
