quote:True dis. Grad Class of ‘67. Went to my 10th. We were all 28ish and looking mostly good. Had time to talk and catch up with classmates. Skip forward to our 50th - the cheerleader and rah-rah girls got control of running the reunions and things shifted to the popular group and their notions of what the classmates would want. Their brainstorm for our 50th was to recreate our SR. Prom, including having the same band (survivors) play. Problem was the bulk of the class has aged beyond those glory days of yore. The band was so loud and constant that nobody could hear anybody else to visit or talk, even sitting right next to each other. Frustrating and disappointing for those wanting to “catch up” with old friends and acquaintances. We had all aged up to the point that few were recognizable as the same classmates from back in the day. I was also stunned to learn of the ones who were deceased - knew of a few, but there were also surprises listed on our memorial table.
care less to go to see all the popular ones trying to relive their glory in their 40’s
Had looked forward to my 50th, but overall I found it a downer, and will not be going to any more. That ‘67 ship has sailed.

What say you about High School reunions?
I went to my 10-year-high school reunion — it was... fine. One person who had recently come out seemed to take over the event, making it a bit of a "look at me" situation. It came across as more self-serving than celebratory, which took away from the experience for me.
I ended up skipping the 20-year reunion. One night, a Facebook Messenger group thread exploded with hundreds of messages, mostly from our class president, who was expressing frustration that many Black classmates hadn’t attended the 10-year because they either weren’t invited or received their invitations late (he was black as well). I honestly couldn’t remember the details, but after reading through the thread, I left the group and decided not to go.
My 30-year reunion came around a few years ago. I didn’t attend that one either — interest was pretty low overall, and I already had other plans.
Honestly, with Facebook and social media, I think a lot of us already stay loosely connected, which makes traditional reunions feel less necessary these days.

90% of people agree with me, yet still 11 DVs- gotta love the OT.

Social media has made high school reunions obsolete

My class has an annual crawfish boil. In fact, we had our 56th on Friday.
We had 85 guys get diplomas, I think 60 are still alive and around 30 showed up. It’s a fun time and no wives are allowed.

I went to the 10,20,30,and 50 year reunion.I enjoyed them all especially the 50th.
We had a pretty good turn out for the 50th.Saw old classmates that I hadn’t seen since graduation as they didn’t come to previous reunions.
We had a good many that had died ( they didn’t come). It was interesting seeing how people had aged, some were wrecks and others looked amazingly good.Couple of the women I was shocked at how well they had aged.
It was fun talking about the old days, seeing pictures of their children and grandchildren. Most had had successful lives.
Good many were surprised that I had turned into a respectable person with a decent career as I was a minor hoodlum in high school.

I go to every reunion we have. I had a great time in high school and still have a lot of good friends from my class. Pretty much got along with everybody so it made it a lot if fun. And it was back in the 80’s when you could actually do stuff and get away with it.

Reunions died with the early millenials. Weve had facebook since we were 18 or so and have no reason to "catch up" outside of actual friendships.

I went to both my 5 year and my 10 year. Despite almost none of my current or former friend groups going, I still managed to have a great time. I’ll probably go to my 20th in a few years.

Unfortunately some of my classmates peaked in high school and have continued to peak since.

I avoid the people I graduated with like the plague.

Chance to catch up. We don't have real reunions, one of the people who graduated a few years ahead of my class has a farm in West Georgia and every 5 years they have an alumni weekend and anyone who attended the school or any in the area is welcome to come for the festivities. I have been to 3 in the 42 years since I graduated and it was enjoyable. Have gone to my wife's and we had a good time at those also. Its good to catch up with people who knew you when you weren't just a parent of someone else LOL....

Was not popular. Would not have been invited.

This thread got me thinking. I remember most of the people from highschool, but the names for a lot of them are getting a little fuzzy.
I’m sure if I saw them in person I’d remember the name, but that’s a gamble.

If you are single and looking to hook up you should go. The hot girls who wouldn’t give you the time of day have been humbled by age and they will throw it around.

It’s both
Some go to be praised.
Some go lookong for help
Some to just to catch up
Some go to observe
It just depends.

I haven’t been to any of mine, but 25 years will be coming up soon and there are some people I would genuinely enjoy catching up with, so I’ve been thinking about going to that one. I’ll probably reach out to those I would want to see and make sure they’ll be there before I commit to going. I’m still really close with some of my high school buddies, but there are a few people I’ve lost touch with that used to be great friends.

We had an open bar at our 20 year. It was a good time. Talked to people I hadn't seen in years. Good time.
