Its an awesome city.

The Southside is an absolute warzone and its Mayor might be the worst in the entire nation.

I’ve only been once but enjoyed my time there. I liked it more than NYC, which I’ve been to several times. We stayed at the JW near Millennium Park and walked all around that area, Magnificent Mile, and River North area (and some surrounding areas), took a ride share to West Loop and enjoyed that area too. Never felt like we were in any sort of danger.

Awesome city. Lived there. Would do it again.

My sense is small worldview people are more easily influenced by their algorhythms. Chitting on cities they know very little about but what their algorhythmic overlords told them to think. And race lubricates their hate gonads.

A day on Randolph festival, dip into Wrigleyville and Blue Chicago or Kingston Mines evening is alright by me! After all, blues was born in New Orleans…but raised in Chicago.

I’ve always wanted to go for the food. I love deep dish pizza.

Had a few friends that lived there after college, they loved it. One still there and started a family.

I probably know Chicago better than most on here, being a lifelong Midwesterner, having spent a great deal of time there over my entire life, and who now lives in a small Indiana city connected to it by commuter train.

Some of the neighborhoods are really excellent (you mentioned Jefferson Park, I know it and it’s very nice). Some (black neighborhoods on the South Side, in particular, though even then there are good black neighborhoods and very good neighborhoods in that part of the city) are burnt out ghettos that are terrifying to even be near. Unfortunately, of course, the fine citizens who have made those neighborhoods like that are free to roam anywhere they please. If one doesn’t care to run that risk (something with which I sympathize), it’s best to steer clear completely.

You have to be careful no matter where in the city you are, but it can be a great urban scene.

Chicago is an awesome city. Everything thinks of the hood when they hear Chicago, which is a small part of the city

Chicago is a great city, lots of folks on here that have never ventured more than 10 miles from mama's house have a herd mentality and jump on certain band wagons just because it seems like the cool thing to do

While it does have some nice areas, overall it is a dangerous, corrupt, sancturary city that's politics reward and foment a terrible culture and lazy electorate that lives off of law abiding hard working Americans.

I bet 95%+ of those 719 murders in 2022 were confined to a few specific areas and mostly black male on black male violence.

Maybe. I remember this argument, pulled up a Chicago crime map, and it was all over the city, not just one area.

Look, I can travel to NY and have a great time. Doesn't mean I want to live there.

I know, crazy fricking concept.

If you can afford it, nearly any city can be a nice experience. They all need tourist dollars. If you can't afford it, nearly any city can be a mistake... usually for the same, lingering reasons.

Parts of it are amazing, some parts are absolute shite holes.

Just know what neighborhoods to stay away from and you'll have a good time. Or hood time depending.

Everything is political now, even people's opinions major American cities. If you say anything nice about a major American city nowadays, you must be a flaming purple haired liberal. There is no in between.

crime and the leadership are why it gets shite on. I have never been but i am sure if you stay in the good areas everything is great. My nephew is moving there for work next week...based on the info i have from my sis and BIL (grew up in chicago) it's very expensive, parking is hell and there are bars everywhere and tons of things to do...just avoid going into the bad areas.
