NHC says still NNE (25 degrees) motion but that is probably averaged over the last 2 or 3 hours.

Hurricane Melissa Tropical Cyclone Update
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL132025
1200 PM EDT Tue Oct 28 2025
...MELISSA'S EYE APPROACHING THE SOUTHWESTERN COAST OF JAMAICA...
...STAY IN YOUR SHELTER...
...1200 PM EDT POSITION UPDATE...
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION! Do
not leave your shelter as the eye passes over, as winds will
quickly, and rapidly increase on the other side of the eye.
Residents should remain in place through the passage of these
life-threatening conditions. To protect yourself from wind, the
best thing you can do is put as many walls as possible between you
and the outside. An interior room without windows, ideally one where
you can also avoid falling trees, is the safest place you can be in
a building. You can cover yourself with a mattress and wear a
helmet for added protection.
The next update will be provided at 100 PM EDT (1700 UTC), or as
needed for landfall.

Yeah, it’s a very strong hurricane. I’m just saying it’s tiny. The hurricane force winds only go out like 30 miles, while Gilbert’s covered most of the island. If the core hits, that spot’s wrecked, but it’s not going to level the whole country. I agree that this new track is very bad for Montego Bay.
I guess I read the statement you shared a little differently than you did. To me, they were saying the portions of Jamaica that get hit will never be the same. Which, as poor as the infrastructure is in some of the areas this is hitting, doesn't seem outlandish. If we're talking about the entire island being wiped off the face of the earth, then sure. That's hyperbole.

Look at this. Melissa's eyewall is crawling up the coastline

My parents have been going yearly to the Tryall Club since the 1980’s, and some of their friends bought a place down there. It looks like it’s going to take a pretty good lick.

Yeah the comment I was addressing was one on S2K saying Jamaica will never be the same entirely but they did say they feel for the people in the path, which I do as well, I love Jamaica.
Gilbert will still be the most impactful hurricane in Jamaican history once Melissa leaves. This won't be comparable to what Gilbert did. I get tired of storm hobbyists and even people like Ryan Hall making outlandish statements and predicting doom and mass casualty events that just don't make much sense.
