Goodness, why didn't they leave?
They tried.
They had flights for Sunday, but they closed the airport. They had tried for a solid 24 hours to get on earlier flights.
My full post about it is on about page 12. They’re with about 375 other resort guests and staff in a shelter on the resort.

Some are reporting that the treasure beach cam is on a loop
thats pretty clever. Get a bunch of views until someone outs you.
Even with real livecams I wonder about the actual location. Could be one from the far west of the island and not actually in the zone.

I wouldnt schedule a Caribbean trip any time during hurricane season
Ive done it 15 times. Waited out one small tropical storm in the DR. Just have to be very alert and make quick decisions

Melissa is perfect, that's all you can really say. Prayers for those in the path who will endure this storm and its aftermath.

That's awful. Hope they are able to get the help they need and are able to shelter throughout the storm.

The amount of lightning in Melissa's eyewall is unreal.

Because it's the third most powerful storm in recorded history and still strengthening as it enters the island. If some of these estimated wind gusts are correct, you're looking at gusts 50-80 MPH higher than Gilbert, Ivan or Dean had while in Jamaica. Maybe more.
Those were obviously very, very bad. But this is on another level when it comes to a hurricane making landfall while hitting peak intensity. Hopefully the track stays out of Montego Bay.
Yeah, it’s a very strong hurricane. I’m just saying it’s tiny. The hurricane force winds only go out like 30 miles, while Gilbert’s covered most of the island. If the core hits, that spot’s wrecked, but it’s not going to level the whole country. I agree that this new track is very bad for Montego Bay.

NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL132025

helmet for added protection.
