This is the right answer. We did it and have no regrets. It’ll be scary at times but if you do whatever you do well and aren’t an a-hole you will likely succeed and you’ll wonder why you stayed in corporate America for as long as you did. I would suggest (you’ve probably already done this) that you create a budget to stick to in order to not stress yourselves financially as you get going. Get involved in your community and they’ll take care of you. Good luck!!

Would you be happier doing the new job? That is the question. Being miserable at your current job sucks but would the new one be better? 6 months is nothing but if keeps going the same after that, then what?

So this new company wants to abuse you by paying you a lower salary, but you can make more if you give up all your free time to them. Run from this. I’m a retired CEO who ran a business with 5500 employees when I retired. I would have never done this to a new prospect or allowed one of my managers to do this. Invest in yourself and your family. God bless! I hope your business venture is a success.

Keep doing what you doing (insurance I believe?) and working on building up your personal business with the wife.

How old are you? If you are early in your career, I seriously doubt this will be the best job offer you ever have! I'm being sincere. I had a similar scenario early on in my career and it didn't work out the way I had hoped. I felt like it was now or never. Truth is had I waited; I'm sure the opportunity would have presented itself again and I would have been better prepared for it.
Throughout my career, there have been several opportunities that present themselves. Some I listened to and didn't work out and today I'm thankful they didn't work out. Others I didn't give consideration and later regretted. Either way it all works in the end. You can't spend energy dwelling on the roads not travelled.
I can also tell you that within a few months of gaining the additional income your lifestyle will adjust and you will feel the same financial pressures that you feel today. Leave for a job that is a better job and offers more fulfillment not just because it's more money.
As for your situation, if y'all are serious about opening a business you need to focus on the business. Opening a new business while starting a new job that requires a significant time commitment will be extremely stressful on your personal life.

I'm confused. Will you be making more due to going from salary to hourly & getting a lot of overtime or a bonus structure?

Other offers will come, if needed, down the road. Don't take the bait and switch on something that isn't guaranteed.

A gigantic sincere thank you to everyone who has responded! I mean that! I never expected to get so many genuine responses and I have to say, y’all have opened my eyes to what I always saw with this opportunity but tried to make excuses for. I’m going to turn it down today and my wife is on board with that decision. It’s the most difficult professional decision I’ve ever had to make, but the nearly every weekend for the heart of football season, which will coincidentally be my business’s busiest time of the year, is a massive deal breaker for me. Even if my business didn’t exist, I’d still be removing myself from my family during that time.
I’ve decided if I’m going to work 12 & 13 hour days plus slave away on weekends, it’s going to be while building my dream. Not somebody else’s. My mental health can’t tolerate that much more corporate life anymore.

Id stick to your current situation on your current track. You’d be risking throwing away a lot of time and money you’ve invested for something that may not end up like you think it will

I had a similar situation 6 years ago. Continue on my current path and be comfortable or be my own boss and have unlimited earning potential but have to leave the golden handcuffs and go into some debt to get it started. Stressed about it for 1-2 years. Finally pulled the trigger and I have worked 2 days in the last 3 weeks and my business actually made more money with me gone!

Yes, I agree and these points are major reasons why I’m going to reluctantly turn it down.
