Need a family hauler and don't want to spend $50K on a new SUV. Start are some good used mid or full size SUVs we should be looking at?

Look for a ~2010 Suburban/Tahoe with about 125k miles.

Treat it right. It'll give you another 100k easy.

Gas mileage though.

I'd look at 2012 or so Mazda CX9s or older Toyota Highlanders.

2012 CX9, 72k miles, $13k+

It's probably going to have a lot of miles on it, but it's possible I guess.

To me the Honda Pilot would probably be your best bet to find something not terribly old, not beat to shite and with relatively modest mileage

I don't like them, but a nicer SUV will be very high mileage in that price range

Sure, you can find something. Be willing to buy from an individual and don't narrow your options too much. If you're too specific, you'll never be happy with anything you find. Research the make/model and take the vehicle to your mechanic before you purchase it. If the seller won't allow it, walk away.

You're going to be in the 6 to 9 year range, though, with your budget and probably higher mileage the newer it is.

I like the CX9's and they are usually well reviewed, but they're smaller than alot of the others in the class and the third row is damn near unusable because of it.

look for a mid 00's suburban, it'll have higher mileage, so stick some money away for a rebuild, when you get to 220k or so you'll probably end up needing to rebuild the motor, but the rest should last you as long as you do regular maintenance and change the oil on time. The good thing about chevy parts is they're fairly inexpensive and readily available and easy to work on if you have half a brain in your head. Also change the bushings and the wheel bearings, etc when you get it.

The Mitsubishi Outlander has a 3rd row, but good luck fitting in it. Small kids would probably be fine.
