I heard the hemorrhoids are continuous from the bouncing, but not sure. Probably wouldn’t be bad if you drove sundown to sun up, but there are some really dumb drivers on the road, so that’s a challenge.

My dad has been a trucker most of his adult life. He is now 81, almost 82 and still does it to fight off boredom of just being at home.

Are you talking OTR, route, hook and drop, refer, box, van, tanker, hazmat, oversized loads, what are you looking at?

The big cut is OTR versus local. OTR can be gone 2-3 weeks at a time. Which if you are thinking "see the country" that's what you probably mean.

Aside from being gone for extended periods, the other down side is weather and other drivers (car and other truckers). There are a lot of dumb, really dumb truckers out there.

The old man likes it, I used to go with him some and it gets pretty mind-numbing. The mental challenge is minimal. If sitting for long periods, eating crappy food, dealing with idiots, and long periods away from home interests you then yeah the money is OK. I would say most really busy truckers are in the $80k-$100k range after 3-4 years.

My buddy hauls cars, corvettes specifically. He seems to enjoy it, especially now they're getting California trips from bowling green. But, there are moments like this... not my buddy's truck, his coworker was uninjured. ~5 corvettes didn't make it.

Right, I’ve thought about it,( when I was younger) if I could smoke weed and not have a problem I would of done it.

Before anyone says anything I ment just being able to smoke at night, in the cab, but with inspections you can’t do that.

I have been having my Class A CDL for 16 years and drove for two different oilfield companies for about ten years of that. I've been in an office for the last six and miss driving sometimes.

All I can say is the guys I know that got fed up with the oilfield and left to OTR quickly came back saying it was horrible. But at this driver shortage continues the wages will only increase so it may eventually be worth it.

I'd do it but I hear they won't let you smoke weed and apparently you have to be on a specific schedule and get shite to the destination on a certain time and they turn you in if you strangle lot lizards. I'm holding out for shift leader at Winky Dinky Dog.

The work of truckers is usually not easy. Always on the move, always in a hurry. Stress and monotony. On the other hand, drivers get to see a piece of the world. Meet people, visit interesting places, and have adventures. Timely delivery of cargo in all weathers, preservation of rolling stock, and minimization of risks and costs require good physical condition and extreme concentration from the driver. A friend of mine worked through https://www.truckinginsurance.org/coverage/bobtail-insurance-101/ and told me that the most important thing on the road is to eat right and on time. Because if this is not observed, health problems can arise in no time at all.

Paging horsemeat

My dad was a OTR trucker. His knees and legs were shot at about 55 because of all the up and down out of the truck over the years. He loved it though, and as a kid, riding with him in that 18 wheeler made me feel like a million bucks when I got to go with him. My dad stayed in hotels, not in the truck, but that was his choice.

If you do nationwide, you can see a lot of the country. Not the worst lifestyle at all.

All depends on the company and commodity. You can find companies that send guys out for months at a time. Some just run regional, out and back type stuff. All pay pretty well.

So I see the original post is old and a bot bumped this, but curious what you decided. Did you end up making the move and if so how do you like it?

Calling All Over The Road Truck Drivers

Anyone else confused by this?

Are you asking for all truckers, excluding those that drive under roads, or over dirt or something else not asphalt?

Or are you asking for truckers that swerve all over the road as they drive?

Why are most plumbers alcoholics living in trailer parks if they're all rich?

Head over to I-12 eastbound around 5pm on any weekday. It will look like someone sprayed the area with Semi-In-Heat.
