They are keeping 1.2 million. The original owners attorney brokered a deal with the new owners. Why in the fck didn’t the original owners just pay the damn storage fee in time? There is a lot more to this story that we will never know.

Sounds to me like the origin of the money was criminal in nature and the owner of the storage unit is now sleeping with fishes. This appears to be the only explanation as to why any swingin’ dick would abandon a locker with that kind of dough hidden inside.

Would be hard to spend without drawing suspicion from the IRS.

Only if he started buying big houses and boats and fancy cars. Pay cash for small items and groceries and dining out and this amount of money would last for several generations.

No, you can make incremental deposits in a variety of accounts through different banks and get it all in there over time, as well as using it to make cash purchases.

say you somehow escape structuring and deposit 9,999 in each account. that will take 251 accounts/deposits

if you do 1 per month, that will take 21 years

i know you're fricking with me but the location is irrelevant. you probably can't even get that money past TSA to do it, regardless of destination

Free gas for life for me and everyone in my family would be worth not reporting it.

Other things like food and consumables would be relatively untraceable.

shite like hunting club dues and ball game tickets and parking passes paid for in cash.

If you resist the urge to quit your job and post Instagram videos of private planes and hookers that money could fly under the radar for two lifetimes and make things real comfy.

How do you have $7.5 million in a storage unit and forget to pay the $40 a month and cause it to go to auction?

I agree but how is the attorney proving ownership for the original owners?

I don't see why you would need to launder it unless you wanted to buy something big.
I would live in a rental as long as I didnt have to work again.

I was just thinking the same thing. $7.5 million just doesn't disappear without SOMEONE looking for it. Uncle Sam will take his cut from it with the implicit threat that he'll use his gun on you if you don't pay him his share.

Whoever that $7.5 million belongs to is just going to skip the threat and use the gun.

The banks will report a SAR (suspicious activity report) without you knowing about it even if you make small incremental deposits, because it's not your normal course of activity. Even if it's not the same teller the computer software will flag it. Frequent cash deposits are a huge red flag. If you want to use a bank, put it in a safe deposit box. Banks discourage putting cash in a box, but they're not supposed to know what's in them anyway. Just keep your mouth shut.
