I thought part of the issue was that the residents didn't do any preventative maintenance or upkeep on the houses.
Of course the porches will deteriorate/rot if they don't get repainted/sealed in that climate. Same thing for mold getting established is plumbing leaks aren't fixed, etc.
You're suggesting these people take care of their stuff? How dare you. They're victims. They should get government subsidized maintenance crews to take care of their neighborhoods for them.

No good deed goes unpunished.
Green material sucks BTW. Should have made it out of Styrene reinforced concrete.

Yeah, but it would last a little longer if you build it to code and use treated wood.
Then part of the blame should be on the city, if they have similar codes to backwards arse Alabama.
Here all new construction requires all code inspections to be completed prior to a certificate of occupancy being issued. At my house it meant the power company would not set the permanent meter until they were given the all clear from the city.
I agree that this sucks for Mr. Pitt. He didnt design or build the houses, he just paid for them. Much of the problems are from the homeowners not doing the proper maintenance. There is a reason some people should rent and not own.

It is Brad Pitt’s fault for not realizing that you can’t help people who refuse to help themselves. They’ve been living off of handouts for generations and still hate those who pay their way.

I’m sure a few of them have legit gripes, but almost all homes will have some sort of minor defect at some point.
Some of these folks paid for these homes and if they work was shoddy, then by all means seek remedy
But there are some that are just piggy backing onto others

My understanding is people didn't upkeep cheaper houses that were built to fill a need for cheaper housing.

If I were given one of these homes it would still be in top shape. These people have done ZERO maintenance. One must SEAL the surfaces every now and then with water sealer and/or paint. If you do ZERO maintenance, it'll start deteriorating. Leave Pitt alone.

I worked on building some of those houses in my free time. They were bussing in groups of church kids from around the country - kids with zero knowledge of construction - handing them a hammer and basically saying "Go out there and build some houses."
Yeah, there were contractors overseeing every thing, but I witnessed these kids installing sheathing incorrectly one time. I told the contractor in charge, and his response was "It'll be ok." Yeah putting only 3 nails in plywood sheathing will definitely not cause any future issues.
That same contractor was trying to cut a wooden column with a sawsall. He fricked it up so bad, they had to pull the column and replace it. Me and my buddy just stood there and laughed at him.

I can picture ole Brad shruggin' this sheeeeit off like Cliff Booth in OUTIH. When you swag like Brad Pitt, even lawsuits seem trivial.

Are we sure they didn’t? Treated lumber also puts chemicals into the environment. Not very “green”
Positive.

Agreed. I have to assume they did drive by inspections.

Well, that’s dumb. But I also found where they said they weren’t using treated lumber because of the chemicals. Like I said, there’s a lot of blame to go around here, some lies with the foundation/Pitt, and some lies with the homeowners

Someone mentioned a rotting porch earlier in the thread.
the wood for the porches in question were supposed to last for 40 years guaranteed.
"The actor's Make It Right Foundation used a glass-infused wood, guaranteed to last 40 years, in recently built energy-efficient homes in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward.
" "glass-infused wood product called TimberSIL"
Timbersil product data "Although we have a 40-year warranty, timbersil's lifespan is essentially indefinite"

Personally I don't think Pitt should be responsible at all.

I know some homeowners didn't do their part but those houses had issues from the day they were built. Like many others have said the materials and designs have caused issues from the beginning. Haven't contractors had sign NDA to work on these houses because there have been so many problems.
