I haven't read up on this since it all started a couple years back. I seem to recall the issues all being the exact issues one would expect when you give a bunch of leeches a free house, and they proceed to live in said house and never lift a finger to perform maintenance or ordinary upkeep.

Maybe try some preventative maintenance and change an air filter every few months.

Eh, if you spearhead the whole thing you have some responsibility

Even in their current condition these homes are still in better condition than the homes that were there prior to Katrina, Oh and it didn't cost those homeowners a dime.
This plan may have been poorly conceived and implemented but it doesn't appear anyone was defrauded.

Yeah, but it would last a little longer if you build it to code and use treated wood.

This is the main issue with just giving people houses, like Habitat for Humanity, and shows like Extreme Makeover Home Edition
The problem with giving homes to people is that the people you are giving it to are still on the hook for maintenance, repairs, upkeep, etc. If they don't do any of that the homes will fall into disaray

Brad is getting screwed. "Activist" hustler NOLA trial lawyers are the worst.
I remember when the show Top Gear drove across the USA to NOLA, at which time they were to try and sell their cars to locals. Jeremy Clarkson sold his and was harassed hours later by some two bit black chick lawyer over selling her client an unsafe car, all the while spouting racial catch phrases.
No good deed goes unpunished in that kind of "legal" atmosphere.

From what I remember the designs were submitted by architects from around the world, Brad's Make It Right foundation picked 5 or 6 designs from the dozens or so they received, then an architect firm in New Orleans created blueprints from those designs

True. Just look at what happened in the neighborhood in Tx that oprah and Bon Jovi created and paid for. They quietly built 65 houses and mathew mcconahey paid for a playground to be built for the residents. The resident were given an interest free mortgage and their house note was $400 a month.
Well, lets see how the residents in their new neighborhood are doing LINK
Surprise!!! Its gone to shite.
The playground was vandalized and used to sell drugs and was razed. Crime and vandalism are rampant. They have bitched that the houses should have been free, They are pissed that oprah has never come back. They feel that all repairs should be paid for by oprah, of course.

I’d take that shite over having to pay a mortgage every month every single time
This type of shite makes me sick. Anyone who tries to get an extra dollar out of ANYONE after getting a whole motherfrickin house for free needs to be shot.... yea, I went there
I hate parts of our society sometimes

The dude tries to do something good and help "those" people and now "they" want to sue him. This is a perfect example of why you just can't help those kind of people.

THIS!!
It's lazy, unworthy, unappreciative people like this that strive to frick over someone that wants to help them. But thankfully, it molded me into the person I am today.
TRUE EXAMPLE:
I was eating a sandwich and I saw a homeless person and a stray dog. The sandwich ALWAYS has and ALWAYS will continue to go to the stray dog.
I will always help an animal in need before I ever consider helping a stranger.

From what I recall. The houses were poorly designed. The architect didn’t take climate into account and used “green” materials that just don’t perform correctly in the hot wet climate in south Louisiana. If my memory is correct they used a lot of new materials that weren’t even on the market yet at the time. Probably had been used in California where the climate is dry and worked great there.
A republican judge would do this
1. Determine the market rent for that area.
2. Calculate how long the POS lived in the house.
3. Charge the POS rent for that amount of time.
4. Give the POS a credit for how much the POS paid for the house ($0.00)
5. Condemn the house and make the POS move out.
A democrat judge would do this:
Mr. homeowner, you should file suit against the man that GAVE you a FREE home
Thank God we have TRUMP
