I thought part of the issue was that the residents didn't do any preventative maintenance or upkeep on the houses.
Of course the porches will deteriorate/rot if they don't get repainted/sealed in that climate. Same thing for mold getting established is plumbing leaks aren't fixed, etc.
Of course this is the issue. Just like section 8 people don't give two shits about stuff they were given and let it go to shite.

How do you sue over something you were given for free and chose to live in?
couple things...
1) I'm pretty sure the homeowners purchased the homes but I could be wrong.
2) this was discussed a little over a year ago here and I seem to recall the homeowner having unrealistic expectations basically because the Louisiana home warranty act favors the contractors.
old thread

That’s what porches do
That's exactly why my tuscan house has a portico.
Maintenance free and better aesthetics.
Porches are trashy.

Talk about your movies that probably couldn’t be made today.

Remember the story of him throwing a beer across the street to a balcony with Brees and McConaughey?
That’s dangerous. Didn’t he stop and think of the 1’s of people he could of hurt or the glass he could have broken? What a reckless a-hole

makes sense, but Brad Pitt isn't at fault.
I never said Brad was to blame. However, when pose for as many photo ops as he did back then at the houses, he opened himself up for criticism. If you remember, articles at the time we’re “Brad this, Brad that” he never shied from the attention or credit for spearheading the project.
Look I agree, he tried to do a good thing and he meant well, and he doesn’t deserve to be sued for the failed design or construction of the houses, because he wasn’t the architect or builder. But when your name is plastered all over the product, you should expect the backlash when something goes wrong just as you expect the accolades when it goes right.
I like Brad Pitt a lot, like all his movies, but like I said back then, especially when we had others like Sean penn floating around in his canoe, these movie stars and celebs should stay in their lanes. If they want to hold fundraisers with all their rich friends please do, the people of New Orleans need the financial help because the federal gov is slacking, but leave the nitty gritty to people who do that everyday. We don’t need people seeking attention helping out, if he wanted to get his hands dirty, do what Steve buscemi did after 9/11 and put your head down and go to work, shy away from the camera.

Agree 100%. Curious as to how this may effect organizations like Habitat for Humanity going forward.

Brad Pitt should date 20 year old Victoria’s Secret models like DiCaprio does

You've now received the complete NOLA experience, Brad.

Help ungrateful people and this isusually the result.

If New Orleans experiences another Katrina, the city should be left to rot.

Yeah, but it would last a little longer if you build it to code and use treated wood.

Lesson learned. Never do nice things.

This is what I was gonna ask. How do we know these issues weren't caused by neglect on the part of the residents?
Someone mentioned a rotting porch earlier in the thread. Well, that is pretty much on the president. If you see things starting to break down/wear out, fix the shite. Dont just let it go until it causes major issues down the road with other parts of the house.
Jeez, this really gets under my skin that people use others who did nothing but help them out of a shitty situation.

I couldn't agree more, just be an international cocksman like you read about. Or if you don't want to do that, start a tequila company like George Clooney. So many options.

I'm sure some were but most were construction defects. The majority of the issues we saw originated from the floor framing because they used untreated wood I joists and no squash blocking.
We were contracted to do inspections and design remediation by a home warranty company. I think they had taken over another warranty company a few years after the houses were built but either way they got fricked......hard......in the arse.

Are we sure they didn’t? Treated lumber also puts chemicals into the environment. Not very “green”

Brad Pitt should face the most severe of penalties ... disgorgement of all the profits he made off this deal!!!
Oh wait, never mind.
