Lake Windcrest is part of the Invited Club Group. They recently sold The Woodlands Country Club to the Arcis Group. I know that Invited Clubs at that $1500 Initiation Tier will often run specials, make a one-two year commitment and it’s waived or eventually reimbursed. They will probably also make you commit to a 12 Month term. The yearly dues will be subject to increase every year. Also, even though it’s a “private” club ask about how many outside tournaments do they allow on the course. Other Invited Clubs do have outside golf tournaments/groups that sometimes book on weekends which is ridiculous.

Looks like you are in the North Houston area. From what you posted it seems like you can afford joining a nicer golf club. You should give it a trial run at the course you visited to see how it goes. If I lived in the Woodlands - Spring area I would join Highland Pines with plan that lets you play Augusta Pines as well.
Another thing to consider is there an early termination fee and over the past few years have the monthly dues increased every year.
