…where does this rank on the infrastructure priority needs of Baton Rouge? Does it even sniff the top 100?
Just drove this area and saw all the work being done on this project and couldn’t help but shake my head at this colossal waste of money.
10 foot wide sidewalks on this stretch of road? Really?

Mighty nice of them to put sidewalks on both sides of Florida. Although 60 million sounds like a hell of a deal. Just curious if Sidewalk Tiger is involved in this project?

It's not only sidewalks

We just want less crime and better schools. That's a lot of cops and teachers and text books.

How much goes to the project and how much goes to the pockets of the pols? I bet I could contract out a group that could do this for less than half that.

Sounds like it will really open up the firing lanes there.

Larger landing pads for the frogger participants but they'll still get hit.

There is no hope for BR. Its a dump and destined to only get worse.

BR should have made Florida Blvd a controlled access expressway from I-110 to Denham Springs 50 years ago. Now we’re spending $60 million on some frickin sidewalks.

Gotta let the drug traffic flow better

I mean, people do get run over on Florida pretty constantly. I’m not sure better sidewalks or crosswalks will fix that. But…It should’ve had sidewalks from the beginning, but here we are playing catch up 70 years later when shite is 800x more expensive.
If car prices keep going the way they’re going, you may see me out there making use of them one day. Ha

Most of the $60 mil is going to drainage and digging/moving utilities.

I'm guessing the money was part of some sort of grant that had to be dedicated to that purpose (in general highway/road infrastructure). At least I hope so. As in I don't think the city/parish is taking money away from cops, or libraries, or EMS to build a hobo super highway.

You can go strolling leisurely along in 95 degree weather inhaling exhaust from four to six lanes of high speed traffic admiring the architectural wonders.

yep. Keep sunshine pumping and ignoring its demise, though.

At this point, I don't care. The entire state is in desperate need of infrastructure upgrades/ repairs.
Something is better than noting, just keep going.

Broome passed thd MovEBR project to pay for all this.
It included a laundry list of highway improvements including Airline, 30 and widening of Lee and new projects like Jones Creek.
It seems like they pushed forward these sidewalk projects and their bus project ahead of most of the others.

Sidewalks are definitely needed. There are more and more pedestrians walking the streets and its only a matter of time before a good citizen has their life ruined because someone is walking on the road in the wrong direction at dusk wearing dark clothes.
I have recently witnessed multiple near misses with someone walking along Highland Rd near the park and Lee Dr at dusk.
