Facebook is teaming up with certain members of Baton Rouge's younger generation for a series of training workshops designed to show them how they can use social media to promote open discussion and unity.

Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced the collaboration between her Youth Advisory Council and the social media giant Wednesday.

She issued a press release, stating: “Our partnership with Facebook provides a wonderful opportunity for our youth to leverage the power of social media to facilitate meaningful dialogue, promote engagement, and empower our community.”

Facebook’s program consists of three online workshops in the coming weeks. Workshop 1: Facebook + IG Tools Tools youth councils can use to engage their communities in their work. Workshop 2: Brainstorming + Content Creation Creative storytelling to drive engagement on the work of local government. Workshop 3: Measuring Impact & Elevating Youth Voices How to measure the impact of social media campaigns and ways young people can use social media for meaningful civic engagement.

The partnership between Mayor Broome’s administration and Facebook aims to educate youth on social media tools and civic engagement, encourage content creation, and elevate the youth’s platform on social media.

This is going to be like MySpace where everyone who signs up starts with one friend. But instead of Tom your one friend is going to be Gary Chambers

It’s funny how the word youth has morphed to mean black kids. And community has became synonymous with ghetto.

We will form a new action committee to study the development of a Facebook task force in order to discuss the creation of a committee to have conversations around issues in our communities. We want to focus on members of our faith based communities in order to foster these conversations while creating a committee that focuses on transparency and understanding through the commission of an advisory board that will oversee these groups designed to address the disparities in our communities of color while facilitating the important conversations needed to bring these communities together. Lunch and refreshments will be served.

Is there going to be a class on "how to hold your phone correctly when videoing police encounters"?

You pretty much nailed it but you need to add at least one 'collaboration' in there. I think the action committee and the Facebook task force can collaborate to discuss the the committee.

Absolutely perfect quote other than that.

The appearance of governing continues.

All show, no substance. Those C-class Mercedes don’t lease themselves.

So when SWB says she has a YAC, she doesn’t mean she has a long haired buffalo in her backyard?
