We reverse white flight'ed about 7 years ago. We moved back to BR because we were tired of driving an hour each way and my kids were already in private school. I think eventually we'll be forced to leave again.

I'm watching all this from Houston, now. Family is still in BR/Ascension and I would move back if the schools weren't hot garbage. But they are, because "Better Together" successfully kept the status quo going.

And incorporation doesn't guarantee their own school district. That would require a statewide constitutional amendment to pass in addition to passing in EBR parish before it could happen.

while it is a pain I like the peace of mind about being out of the riff raff that is BR. 30-35min commute isn't bad.

Only residents of whatever the proposed incorporated area will be can legally sign the petition and it only takes a certain percent of those voters to sign to put the proposal to a vote. Then only St. George residents can vote in the incorporation election if it takes place. Voters in the other parts of the parish don't get to vote on it.
But to create a new school district within a parish requires approval from the voters in the entire parish as well as statewide approval.

As an advocate for SG my primary thing was the ISD.
I could have lived with the current situation.
But that was with Kip in office.
Now we see an entirely different picture with Kip gone, and it looks bad.
Apparently Kip papered over some problems, and had better people to take care of hot issues, and now that they are all gone we see everything in a different light.
The parish is falling apart

Now that I live in the proposed SG area, I would not sign. The SG leadership has never offered a legitimate budget for the city. They pretend they can just peg all the legacy costs onto Baton Rouge. They pretend they won't need a police force. They pretend massive new taxes won't be necessary. It is all lies. Faulk & Winkler reviwed all of their assumptions and issued a report that basically said "lol are you serious?"
Add to that the dishonesty of the signature collectors, and I would never sign or vote for it.

I'd be willing to pay more taxes if it guaranteed St. George ISD, because I'd still end up coming out ahead in the long run.
Unfortunately, the ISD would still be a bit of a long shot, I think.

Money. Everyone accused SG organizers of being crooked arse politicians. The reality was that it was a bunch of middle class families volunteering. In the end the cost of appealing above the 19th JDC level was prohibitive. Even if we do everything right, again, there's no guarantee with 19th JDC involved. The voter registration data for the area is also horribly outdated, and purging the rolls would be another legal battle. It may still start up soon, but the planning goes way beyond just getting signatures.

The Better Together folks miss this point. "Your property taxes will go up!" but dismiss the idea that to send your kid to a school worth a shite, you gotta shell out $5-10k just to get them in the door.
If your taxes went up $2k per year but an ISD was realized, you'd be way ahead.

You didn't follow closely enough the first time. Those were all addressed multiple times. The original plan was more than feasible, and SG released a detailed budget study. I won't speak on a potential new area with annexations continuing.

People have been predicting the demise of BR proper neighborhoods like the Garden District, Hundred Oaks, Capital Heights, Goodwood, & Tara for years. Yet values and demand continue to rise in these areas.

Have you changed your stance at all regarding St. George? I don't imagine a new proposal will be exactly like the first.

Sure. At the time of the first signature collection I lived in Baton Rouge. I was approached while walking into wal-mart, and asked to sign a petition for better schools. I asked if the petition was about St. George. I was told it was not. I told them that I did not live in the proposed area. They said that did not matter. I signed.
They petition was for St. George. I was not eligible to sign, and the collectors made no attempt to dissuade me from signing even after I told them I wasn't eligible. They even lied to told me I was free to sign.
