Rolfe made his bed on this one.
He also made his bed when his other publication (225) put Gary Chambers on their "People to Watch" list for 2017. I have no clue why anyone would give Gary any credence.
Rolfe has lost his mind.

You didn't follow closely enough the first time. Those were all addressed multiple times. The original plan was more than feasible, and SG released a detailed budget study. I won't speak on a potential new area with annexations continuing.
If you call Lionel Rainey saying everything is fine addressing the issues, then yes they were fine. There was no detailed budget. There was a bs projection that everyone laughed at.

You didn't actually read what you signed?

The "petition to incorporate" across the top probably escaped him....

Have you changed your stance at all regarding St. George? I don't imagine a new proposal will be exactly like the first.
If the area for incorporation is a large area with little or no identifiable characteristics I will oppose it. I certainly don't think there should be new city which sprawls from the Amite/Comite Rivers on the northeast side to the Mississippi River on the southwest side.
If the area is a small, concise area with common characteristics which most residents in it identify with, I'll support it just like I did when Central wanted to incorporate.

Yeah... It's not like the petition says what it's for at the top or anything
hell, it even had a basic run down of what it was about on it too.
Something tells me there's more to that there story

Of course I did. That is how I knew the guy handing me the petition was full of chit when he told me the petition was not about St. George.

The SG leadership has never offered a legitimate budget for the city.
I don't disagree, they were limited in what they could do and the budget they advocated was as if it were done off of a napkin.
quote:
They pretend they can just peg all the legacy costs onto Baton Rouge
Which legacy costs are you talking about?
quote:
They pretend massive new taxes won't be necessary
We are currently being bombarded by massive new taxes, and its nothing to do with SG. Maybe if there were a SG we could vote for the taxes we want, and not have to accept taxes like the one for the COA that we never wanted.
quote:
Faulk & Winkler reviwed all of their assumptions and issued a report that basically said "lol are you serious?"
You pay for what you get. F&W was paid by those that were blocking SG, and given certain parameters to work with. Their work contradicted work provided by another expert for the City-Parish, Dr. Richardson.
I'd like to see an advocate from SG provide their side of the argument in the same manner City Hall did. I'd like to see a well financed, professional report proving numbers and looking at real budgets.
But the point you made is real, and needs to be answered to sway voters. I agree with you here.
quote:
Add to that the dishonesty of the signature collectors, and I would never sign or vote for it.
Because you know the people at City Hall are honest and have your best interest at heart?
Do doubt there was a bad apple involved. If it were a principle of the organization then that's a real problem,
But look what you have on the other side. Broome almost hired a liar and a cheat as her CAO. We have the City Hall crowd facilitating what happened with the COA. We see City Hall handing out small contracts to their neighborhood types.
No, if you want to talk honesty and integrity I'm not buying the notion that the SG movement is more dishonest than what we are seeing right now from the mayor on down.

The "petition to incorporate" across the top probably escaped him....
I had the exact same experience more than once.
The "volunteers" approached me with the same "Would you like to sign a petition to get better schools?" line just as the other poster said.
Anyway, when the last petition effort failed you posted that you were going to move out of EBR parish. Did you?

While their proposal might have been lol, I'm not sure Faulk and winkler are independent enough considering where they are located. They should have had an out of state firm audit the statement

Mayor Sharon Weston Broomes
She is such a joke and the best thing to ever happen to the St George movement.
I deal with the city permit office weekly and like the article states, its a fricking circus side show of incompetence up there lately. Overrun by warm bodies drawing a paycheck and wanting to do absolutely NOTHING to justify their monetary value.
Politics aside, it really is sad to watch this town slide into the proverbial sewer.

Believe whatever the heck you want, but if you think a study from a local firm paid for by BRAC AND BRAF was the gospel then you're mistaken.
So the study backed by BRAF is biased and the study by the firm hired by SG organizers is legitimate? Come on. Any person looking at the two objectively is going to realize the Faulk and Winkler study is closer to reality.
Remember the CRI study did not even include costs for a police department, or ISD. I thought the whole point of St. George was an ISD.

Russian is staunchly against ISDs or incorporating a new city in East Baton Rouge.

The reality was that it was a bunch of middle class families volunteering.
So the committee didn't have deep pockets to pay for accountants, legal help, for representatives to fly and meet business owners around the country.
The committee didn't have the power of the mayor's office, City Hall, and the City hall crowd to defend itself.
All that was obvious.
The other side painted Bodi White and Lionel Rainey as to schemers while many of the opponents of SG supported people like Broome, the COA, and the status quo.
The race card was played as if these people were a bunch of Klu Kluckers. They were called terrorists by a guy who can't pay sales taxes to the City-Parish.
SG was really battling the odds and it became apparent that they were in over their heads as time passed. I admire them for what they were trying to do, but I'd tell them to give it up. The deck is stacked against them, it would be better to just move as my son did.

I no longer live in the proposed area, nor in BR. I still have vested interests, however. I will volunteer again if asked.

Do you really expect me to believe you signed a petition without knowing what it was, yet somehow you're informed on the details of the formerly proposed city?
You can still see exactly what the petition looked like here:

Either you're lying or you're incredibly retarded.
