Even in the midwest those seats will get hot during the summer.

I just cruise in the evenings and weekends, luckily she has tinted windows and AC so maybe that will help

It was just a design / styling feature popular in those days, usually on higher end cars like caddy's or fully optioned larger models of most brands. Sort of like the small "opera" windows on the C pillar of luxury cars in that era. Neither functional at all.

Wouldn't be my first choice but that's still a very fine selection and would happily turn my head if I was walking down the street watching it drive by

I knew a lady in BR that had that car when I was a kid, but hers had a white vinyl top. She traded it in on a 4 door 1974 Impala, same colors.
