Same.

Which is why my stance is to not give them a reason to shoot at you.

As seen in the OP, they’ll shoot first.

My other point.

Pacing in your front yard with a rifle and shooting into your own home is not a great action to take and significantly increases your chances of being shot by fidgety shoot first types.

You simply dont fire shots into a house, and expect the 1st LEO on the scene to be reasonable. At that point the guy on the porch was the sole threat, and now he was between the cop and any hostages.

Plus, clearly someone inside wanted him to put the gun down, and then he shot at them. The cop stopped him from doing it a 2nd time

I’d like to see more of the ring video I’m not convinced we aren’t missing pieces. The neighbors call the cops on him for acting crazy basically but the guy doesn’t call the police himself for people inside his home, instead he grabs his gun and anxiously paces around, yells, and then shoots inside his own home?

Cop definitely deserves jail time for shooting too quickly fwiw. Horrible.

Did you just block all information the police had in their possession from your brain in your analysis of the situation?

For a non thinking human, maybe.

Anyone with the ability to think would not immediately jump to those conclusions.

He claimed there was someone in his house (and told that to a neighbor)

he could have been right and the guy ran out another door prior to the “warning shots” or left after the cops got there
It's definitely possible but based solely on watching the video, I'm not sure I'd bet on that

He walks outside, looking away from the inside the house. He speaks in a totally normal tone then later shoots.

If you had to be correct, I'd probably side with it being some kind of mental healthy episode and no one in the house. Could be wrong though.

Alright, after watching the body cam and ring videos (didn’t want to), that officer’s response is criminal. This is coming from someone with experience in deadly force policy.

The officer gave warning without allowing the man to drop the weapon and at the time of engagement the man was not pointing his weapon at anyone, he had it in a half arse low ready. I understand he had just fired a round, but at the time the officer was ready to engage, the man was not pointing his weapon at anyone.

As Roger pointed out earlier in the thread, he also obviously didn’t follow rule four of the main four firearm safety rules, know your target and your backstop.

If an officer presses that trigger, he better be damn sure someone was in imminent jeopardy at that moment. It’s scary, nerve wracking, and can be confusing, but you just can’t make that mistake. Obviously, someone’s life depends on it.

While I agree for the most part, that’s also why you don’t shoot into your own home and walk around your front door like a lunatic

Perhaps even calling the cops yourself and stating you’re out front with a gun and you lowers your chances of being killed. But instead he calls his buddy and tries (poorly) to control it himself.

There’s nothing illegal about holding a gun on your property. The cops messed up and should face consequences. Their saving grace may be the fact that shots were fired. It will be hard for a judge/jury to go against LE when shots are fired.

Is there something that says the cops knew this guy was the homeowner and rolled up thinking he was protecting his home from outside? The one police car went by right after he fired into the home, his home right? What was he doing, did he think someone was robbing him from inside?
