This is why every billboard in the ghetto is a personal injury lawyer.

Yesterday I saw an entire family wearing “Get Gordon” t shirts at Walmart. I just shook my head and audibly chuckled.

There are probably numerous factors at play.

Car quality
Urban environment i.e. more likely to be a pedestrian hit by a car
Less likely to be using car seats

I think the idea is that for those without coverage for regular, routine health maintenance, poor people (or just people without insurance coverage) let issues fester until they have to go to the ER because they can't afford to go see a doctor, which means we all eat those costs anyway. If we socialize medicine, people could get routine checkups and handle problems before they cost 10x or 100x more to treat.

This confuses me, I thought black people didn't have access to healthcare because of racism. This stat is very contradictory to what the media is telling me.

One must actually pay for healthcare/medication/co-pays at their PCP's office. Visits to the ER are free for the uninsured.

White people have the luxury of seeing how they feel and going to their PCP if they have lingering issues. Black people don't have that. They are often reliant on emergency care due to healthcare injustice in this country. They also face a justice system that doesn't provide them the benefit of the doubt when they're the victims of negligence, particularly when their injuries are the fault of white drivers. This only furthers the need for them to seek immediate medical care and obtain documentation of their injuries. Factor in the systemic bias in insurance claims processing (which discounts the harm experienced by black Americans in favor of antiquated white-dominated systems like medical records, etc.) - it's a recipe for injustice.

How else can you sue for maximum damages than by going to the hospital via amberlamps?!

Black Americans are much more likely to visit emergency rooms (ERs) than whites for car crash injuries, a new report finds.

Newly released Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data show that about five out of every 1,000 Americans visit the ER for wounds in motor vehicle accidents.

Researchers found black Americans were much more likely to face car crash injuries with have a rate of 15.2 ER visits for every 1,000 people compared to a rate of 4.3 for every 1,000 for white Americans.

Interesting. I wonder why that is. I also wonder how this relates to insurance rates.

For auto insurance claims anyway
Reparations…

What you just laid out is basically the mission statement for states like Louisiana that have a bureau of minority affairs and minority claims advocacy baked directly into its Department of Insurance. Carriers basically just have to cough up the limits when the complaint/claim reaches this shakedown unit. Sad.

seatbelt usage? Could also be that African Americans are more likely to live in an urban area where accidents are typically more common and more serious? Baton Rouge will see more deaths in auto accidents than to shootings...even this year.

There are other reasons but I'd rather not go into them. But let's just say that all those lawyer billboards aren't cheap.

Folks show up at the ER for everything possible. You have a guy who lost a hand in a chainsaw accident in the same room as people "with the spells," and whatnot. It's an absolute waste, and they are absolutely looking for drugs and attention. And you would NOT be surprised at how important personal injury settlements are for low-class people.

Sir, I cannot find any signs of injury. Is you sure? My nex huts. Oooo owww. Well, okay den. Can you gib me sommin fo it?

This. My uncle works as an ortho doc in Laffy. He says that half of the ER patients are those types. "My baby done be hurtin'."
