Yes, several people. Never asked for it back - I don't give "loans" to my friends on hard times. shite happens, I for one understand.

I’ve always been paid back. I’ve given money away, but that wouldn’t count.

Yes. Off the top of my head, I can remember loaning 3 different people some cash and then gotten stiffed.

One of them was $300. I was paid back $200 before she ghosted me.

One of them was some people I knew when I was single. I loaned them several thousand dollars. By the time I realized it was a mistake I didn't care if I got paid back or not. Those frickers were crazy and both ended up going to prison.

The last time was a relative. They were broke and needed a new washing machine. So my wife and I offered to buy it for them and they could pay us back. Never got $1 of that back.

I don't loan money now. If I decide to help someone out then I just give them the money as a gift.

I loaned a high school friend $40 back in the 80's. He died before he ever had a chance to pay me back. Turns out he was a small time drug dealer and it caught up to him.

Multiple times. I did it to help them out in a bad situation. You shouldn't ever expect to be paid back, because if you do, and they don't, you'll be bitter and lose someone that is probably a friend and they'll be lost. If the amount you give is necessary for you to maintain, don't give it.

Nothing of any significance. I'm sure I have buddies who unknowingly owe me a tenner and vice versa, though.

Yes, and I consider it like this. If I’m paid back, then I know that person is a man of his word and I can trust him.

If it’s not paid back, if cost me exactly that much to never have that person in my life again.

Giving someone a loan is for poor people. Just give it to them if they need it bro

I have a personal rule. I never lend money. I give what I can afford to lose. I will let people pay me back, but I never expect it. Does this mean that I don’t give as much as other people? Yes probably so, but I also have zero stress about “loaning money” to friends and family.

Should have given them a roll of quarters and directions to nearest laundromat

Nope. Simple rule: I don’t loan money to anyone. I especially don’t loan to any of my friends now if they were to ask: we aint kids anymore. What kind of “man” can’t take care of himself and is looking for money from me? Get your shite right.

Please delete this thread. My brother loaned me 250 bucks back in college for books my last semester and I never paid him back. He posts on here.

I’m gonna see him tomorrow and don’t want him asking 30 years later.

Yes, but I don't worry about it because it's just money. No, I'm not wealthy but we've all gone through rough times and I'm just glad I was able to help someone out. If they pay me back great, but I'm not going to let money destroy my relationships.

Definitely. If I have it to loan, I have it to gift. Loaning friends money changes the relationship IMO.

If you loan to someone and they don’t pay you back…

$100 for example

That’s how much you paid to learn not to trust them and remove them from your life.

Helps thinking about it that way

Not loaned but a family member, who has 4 kids, a sorry husband and no job (either adult) ask me to loan her $25,000.00.

I haven't talked to them since, the freaking nerve of people.

What pissed me off was I hadn't heard from them in a long time (years) and all of a sudden she wanted to reconnect and be all friendly, kept calling and making small talk.

Then dropped the bomb, so the whole time she was running a con game.
