Anyone remember when hurricane Gilbert did to Jamaica? I think we can expect about the same or worse with this one.

Nope, just earthquakes, which I think scare me way more than hurricanes.

Update, American opened up flight to Miami this evening. Much to my wife's dismay I booked that flight and we will be continuing our honeymoon in Miami

Glad y'all are out of there.

Have a great time in Miami and congrats on the nuptials

No but you do have quite the conundrum….

Will you accept the replacement Chinese lama child or not?

I’ve learned not to bet against Elon in almost any scenario, hurricane included. Dude will probably just invent a cutting edge weather app.

I was getting the Gilbert vibes earlier in the day seeing the path.

Gilbert didn’t bomb out until after it Jamaica.

I remember there was still a chance it could turn north and head to Louisiana, and we evacuated. We left to go to Arkansas and headed back down to the Mississippi Gulf coast for a few days after it was assured it was not coming to Louisiana. I was 7 at the time.

Lots of places to visit.

My favorite place was The Turtle Hospital (as its name suggests it's a facility which rescues sea turtles and helps them recover before returning them to their ocean habitat).

We were living in Brownsville, TX when hurricane Gilbert made landfall

We evacuated to San Antonio - and there were tons of tornadoes where we were

I knew it was bad bc my dad brought us to toys r us and we could get whatever we wanted - I was 7

Just think of all the power it will generate when it hits all those wind turbines

A couple of points from the 12z GFS. This run moves the system into the Gulf with a more robust mid-level circulation. Past runs have sheared the mid-level vort out leaving Beryl disorganized as it moves into the Gulf.

12z

Vs.

06z

Also, as it turns north there appears to be the potential for a favorable interaction with the trough over Texas.
