IKR! I feel like our Texas and Houston in particular power grid is held together by a thread and a few bandaids! We have so many weather events here and I feel like they’re getting worse at handling it instead of better!

100% legit. When I left Thursday to go to my deer lease in Junction this was going to hit South Texas so I wasn’t prepared.

That’s 2million addresses.

By population average, that’s 4-5million individuals

Heavy rain here 1:30am in BR LA. Remnants of Beryl in Arkansas pulling in moisture from the Gulf trying to form a 2nd feeder band.

Oppressive night time feel mid 80's and very Tropical before this storm cell.
Winds shifted a few times briefly during this quick rain storm ; interesting stuff!

Thanks for the 7 day satellite loop
Beryl exploded at the TX Coast ; good thing it ran outta room ; could have easily been back up to Cat #3!

I wouldn’t. Centerpoint says HALF of outages should be fixed by Wednesday night. Buccees was the only place I found selling hot food. Sweating on the couch right now.

It took 12 days to get power in Kingwood after Ike, and this storm has my area looking about the same, so two days would be a miracle here.

Centerpoint admitted they screwed the pooch. Had 10k resources available and ready, but didn’t stage like they normally would/should.

So nothing got done like it should have yesterday afternoon after the storm passed.

He’s ready to escape his in-laws .. we sent our generator with them “in case” as well as gas cans. They’ll grocery shop here for non perishables.

He seems to think that electricity is up pretty close to them. Maybe even at his house .. I didn’t quite understand and didn’t want to ask too many questions.

All that said, he’s got to figure it out. He wants to go to save the breast milk in the freezer .. I suggested that he go and leave wife/baby here and we’d bro g her back at a later time.

Entergy would have done the same thing. But I suspect that they were anticipating a longer rain/wind event before the clearing in the mid afternoon.

Usually the first few hours are scouting and getting plans on how to tackle the outages and staging for the thousands of crews headed to repair the system. It is probably best described as organized chaos.

Here is the basic repair strategy after a storm. First repair lines to key infrastructure hospitals, stores, communications, key commercial customers like oil refineries, and tackle the easy repairs to the system.

Simultaneously you do key repairs to the heavily damaged portions of the transmission network. Then you do work on the last mile to individual customers.

Unlike the derecho, which within a few hours there were crews out surveying, I haven’t seen a single utility truck anywhere in heights or greater heights area.

I drove around quite a bit yesterday to let stuff charge/get some ac and didn’t see a single center point truck the whole 1.5 hours.

How is everyone this morning, Houston baws?

Some folks started cleaning up limbs and down trees in my hood yesterday. Pretty quiet still here in Shady Acres.

Waters have receded, if it wasn't for spotty power, life would be normal in central Houston.

Getting the frick outta here. I'm not waiting 5+ days for these frickers to figure out how to get the power back on. Last night slept in a pool of my sweat. Houston needs to get its act together. This is happening too much.

Agreed. Even as someone who has been minimally impacted by our recent weather events including the freezes, the frequency of the events and the continued poor response is not a good look.

There has been plenty of "practice" as of late and better procedures and response should be in place.

What will it take for the City and CenterPoint to get their shite together?

Hot and wondering how centerpoint is consistently the worst at responding to disasters. Besides that I already got the yard cleaned up yesterday while it felt nice and life is back to normal.

TNMP had their customers on yesterday evening. Unfortunately my neighborhood is split TNMP and Centerpoint. I am with Centerpoint so I have to wait… CP needs to get their act together….
