It’s a 3rd floor unit and the power is out there
Ended up getting one of those 1400 predator quiet generators from harbor freight to charge my freezer with my deer meat. I have an icy breeze cooler to have ac when I sleep.
How long of an extension cord do you need to run a generator to a 3rd floor unit?
Believe he means the storage unit is on the third floor, baw

Yeah, looks like they are finally getting out and about this morning.
Dont see a lot of trees down within the loop, as a lot speculated, the darecho took out the weak ones. Should be quick fixes for central houston.

All of our power is below ground but we are still out.
Chicken doesn't pay you enough to have a whole home generator and a backup generator on standby?

Ahhh...OK my bad
I was trying to figure out the logistics on how to run an apartment on the 3rd floor with a generator

Lost power yesterday, after two hours, I was getting ready to fire up the generator. Power came on.
Then a friend needed a generator, I load up my truck. I get a call, their power just came back on.
So it looks like I only have to get the generator ready, an the power comes on?

Houston has avoided high wind storms and Ice since Ike really.
May cleared out the north loop which is why I got power but the rest of town had a ton of prime targets for a hurricane
May cleared out Cypress as well. Power was out for lots of people for 4-5 days. My area also had the microburst storm that knocked down a ton of trees a little over a year ago. I don't expect power back right after a big hurricane. I do expect them to do a better job with the grid as a whole instead of acting like some cold weather or extra heat will cause them to have rolling blackouts. I feel like our grid is fragile. I also expect them to stage a little better. They have admitted they did not. It's hard for me to forget Feb. 2021.

“fool me once” moment. Once life returns to normal , getting a Transfer switch installed and buying a 15kw portable, tri-fuel generator to run my house (a-la, poor man’s whole home generator )
Me too. Only it's taken me 3-4 times to decide to just get it done. I would have done it already if I hadn't needed to shuck out $7k for a new AC in March.

Great. Now if you wouldn't mind getting it ready to haul down to Rosenberg, that would be appreciated.

Is it because of the grid or the fact that so many people have moved to Texas from other states that the havent had time to add the needed lines and power plants?
This is a serious question, not trolling... but when yalls population has drastically increased those new homes are taxing the system, and maybe they either havent had time to add infrastructure or arent wanting to spend the money necessary to do so.
Tuscaloosa had that on a much smaller scale when student enrollment went from 12,000 to 38,000. They tear down single family homes and build multi story apartments and then those units draw 30 times as much power as the house, and the sewer lines are not of a size to handle the extra waste, and the water lines dont have enough pressure...
I feel for yall that are without power and hope it comes back on soon.

Houston v. Dallas
Back when I lived in Houston, a co-worker who had lived several decades in Dallas commented on how nice all the trees were in Houston. I asked didn't Dallas have trees and he answered that what trees survived there were the ones that had lived through ice storms and loss of most of their limbs every so many years.

Now that Beryl has moved on things look pretty pretty calm for the next couple of weeks.

Didn't Houston's mayor come under a lot of fire for not having his city prepared for major storms? I seem to recall him being called out a lot after that storm in May.

They do get it on their paycheck. Storm response lineman make a shite ton of money.

That contributed to the issues from the ice storm. This one is mechanical damage to the grid from wind damage. Increased load isn't really a contributing factor here.

Believe it or not, it could have been a lot worse.. hear me out. I was in St Simon’s back in mid May(16th/17th) with some friends from Houston ( Katy), while we were there y’all had that bad storm come through. I think that thing picked off some low hanging fruit. Be grateful nobody close to you was hurt or even killed!

Any idea why it calmed down so quick? It seemed like a constant storm, one right after the other was coming off Africa and now its just quiet.
Not that I want more storms I just dont understand why the environment was perfect for their formations and then bang, quiet.
