I wasn’t belittling teachers, I think they handle more than any of us handle, but the compensation for teaching, discipline, safety, structure, entertaining, state standards, meetings, 20+ kids a week, and working with kids of parents who don’t give a shite, is not worth it these days.

Reduced benefits hurt worse. A teacher used to be able to provide insurance for their whole family for cheap… not anymore.

???

The main reasons people become teachers are the following:

1) easy degree and no lack of jobs
2) summers off
3) benefits
4) thanksgiving, Christmas and spring breaks
5) summers off
6) summers off

It’s obvious some of y’all don’t realize teachers still work after 3:30. They have papers to grade, lesson plans to write, power points to create, etc. my wife works 7-3:30 at school, then puts in another 2-3 a day at home.

Then she has the mandatory school functions on the evening she is “expected” to attend.

I can think of worse careers. Middle management at a big bank for example.

Oh ok I stand corrected

Y’all, teachers get the whole fricking summer off, never forget this

Writing lesson plans on your own time and prepping for the school year is not difficult when you’re doing it on the porch with a dacquiri

How is it "on their own time" if they are working? No teacher I know drinks while lesson planning. Your impression is just flatly wrong.

Need to cut out some entitlement programs and pay teachers more. Problem for a lot of the bad current teachers who bitch on fb about their pay though, they’d be fired with the higher standards associated with higher pay and it being a more desirable job

In Louisiana teacher retirement benefits are horrible, police officer is probably the best.

A teacher will tell you they really "only" have off maybe two weeks a year.

Only work 180 days out of the year, and still making 40k with a pension and great insurance. Compare that to a fire or police department pay, and you'll realize how over paid teachers really are.

Lol. You are absolutely pathetic.

The amount of money put into the education system has no bearing on the outcome.

If anything, LA spends way too much on the return it gets.

Yeah. Firemen work so hard.

In other words, it's like every other corporate job.

Yes it does. Look at any suburban district that has broken off from a nearby city. They all spend more money per pupil and have better outcomes.

That doesn't mean other places don't spend their money well. You also can't really validly judge public school outcomes at the state level, when they are governed at the district level.
