Certain schools have better degree programs than others. ULM is a well-known construction management school, for example.

What kind of test scores does one need to get a significant scholarship from Tech or ULL?

same as LSU, but they just offer more

I would think unless you're getting one of those, LSU is the best choice the vast majority of the time.

maybe

but still not everyone can afford to live away from home

I went to NSU because they have me the best scholarships. They paid for tuition, room, board, books, meals, and more. I actually made a profit when I went there.

I didn't realize the smaller schools offered so many/more scholarships. I guess that answers my question.

They want the betters students to come and they realize they are competing with LSU, so they will offer more money to attract the better students

I chose Tech over LSU simply because I was receiving $1k back (after scholarships) a quarter at Tech, while at LSU, I would have had to take a loan out for room and board, books, etc. LSU offered me extra scholarships, but nothing like Tech did.

Athletic Scholarships, specialized majors, Legacy situations, BR traffic sucks balls, scholarships, internships with companies in the area, meet new people other than 90% of your high school class, change of scenery, cost of living off campus, not being ridiculed for driving a truck... these are just some off the top of my head.

LSU is great. Their athletics are by far better than any other in-state school. However, when it comes to the classes, and the days of the year that aren't the six Saturdays in the fall, LSU is not untouchable!

ETA: FWIW I was accepted to LSU, TECH, ULL, ULM, NSU, LC, and Tulane... Four of these offered me a baseball scholarship... I chose one of those and it was TECH.

It was cheaper for me to go to LATech and I didn't want to leach off mommy and daddy when I was 18.

You realize it's not hard to get into LSU right?

My degree choice was not offered at LSU, and I lived near Lafayette at the time.

It is more difficult than getting into to LA Tech and ULL.

As said before TOPS doesn't cover living expenses.

I went to Nicholls because it was close to home, and when I started college i didn't know what I wanted to do.

I was able to live at home, and graduated with Zero debt. That's something that was important to me.

Why should LSU be the only school anyone would want to attend?

The argument is that with TOPS, LSU should have been the first choice of LA schools for any LA resident.
