Educated guess? It's almost entirely unintentional. These aren't PhD laboratory scientists cooking products in state of the art facilities with rigorous QC checks throughout the process, and even those trained professionals make mistakes. Somewhere in the chain, a lab or distributor (or both) is cutting cocaine while also processing heroin with fentanyl. Equipment doesn't get properly cleaned, chemicals are improperly stored, labeled, etc... whatever you can imagine in terms of terrible protocol, it's probably happening in a clandestine, Mexican laboratory somewhere.

Lol it’s 100% intentional.

Fentanyl is now abundant, extremely cheap, and highly addictive. They are cutting coke with fentanyl to make a few extra bucks.

But you are not dealing with geniuses. You are dealing with complete scumbags and they are adding too much and don’t care a whole lot anyway.

Cartels now use fentanyl so its safe to assume all cocaine is cut with it. This isn't surprising. Fentanyl changed the whole drug game.

The only way to stop it is to make it legal, sell drugs that are cut with it, pure, but the US has no interest in fixing the drug problem.

But at this point everyone using should be aware of the risk so if they are willing to risk their life then there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Fentanyl is added precisely because it's been stepped-on so much already. They add it to put a kick back into it.

Call me a Karen but I dont think legalizing fentanyl is going to help the situation. Fentanyl is super dangerous.

The lawyer was only 26.
Would legalizing cocaine stop this?

I know the toxology report said he had fentanyl in his system but this is first I've heard of him swallowing a "bag of fentanyl?" You got a link for this?

Did you watch the trial?

A couple months before he died he had a separate encounter with the police in which he ate all the drugs and overdosed but he got to the hospital and saved him. There is a picture with a half eaten pill in his mouth when he was being arrested and they found half eaten pills in the back of the cop car with his saliva on them.

Well it’s true. How often do you see people dying from accidental poisoning drinking Jack Daniels?

Now how many people died during prohibition when alcohol was being made in peoples basements?

Good news: we will deliver cocaine right to your front door.

Bad news: it’s cut with the most lethal substance known to humans.

Life is a cruel mistress sometimes.

Fentanyl is in everything. Most ODs we see in NOLA don't know it was in the drug. Especially the fake percocets

Those pill-pressed oxy clones are incredibly dangerous. And many of them are being produced in the states, you can get a commercial pill press for a few hundred dollars online.

How do you know this "100%"?

Sodium bicarbonate is cheaper than fentanyl, doesn't require a laboratory and is one of the most common cocaine additives. It also won't kill you.

Cocaine is highly addictive on its own, adding fentanyl to it in order to get people addicted at the cost of potentially killing many of them makes absolutely no business sense. And cartels are indeed a business.

And while you are almost certainly correct in some scenarios, I'm gonna keep rolling with my educated guess as the reason for most of the cocaine OD deaths. And they aren't especially common given the total number of cocaine users in America, unlike heroin+fentanyl ODs which makes far more sense from that same business perspective.

I do find it hard, as another poster stated, to feel empathy or sympathy for masked and vaccinated idiots who then turn and injest street drugs. They claimed they valued life enough to quarantine but chose to buy powerful chemicals from complete strangers. So much idiocy
