Spending money on stuff more important than that...

What would the US be like if there were no insurance companies? Wasn’t there a time when they didn’t exist? Where would all the money that’s paid to insurance companies go if they didn’t exist?
You may want to look at the correlating avg lifespan as well.
People live and flourish bc insurance has spurred medical innovation. Now that doesn’t absolve insurance companies of many deplorable deeds they’ve manufactured.. the system is a broken hybrid of government and private industry.

I wasn’t taking a stand, I was asking serious questions that you didn’t answer, so please try again. Also, can you give examples of the innovations the insurance companies have spurred?

I cannot stand bean counters.
Zero clue of the situation on the ground.

United Healthcare just posted a 90B profit, with better margins than last year.
Because the demand for insurance is higher than it's ever been. That's what happens when you drive the cost of healthcare through the roof, which again, is because of Obamacare.

The collective dollars are what push innovation from R&D ..
The answer is we’d either pay for it in taxes or decide on less healthcare leading to medical bankruptcies when issues arise. Either way.. the system would be ok for the rich and medical bankruptcies would rise and we’d see less innovation for all. The government based healthcare would fail or institute cost controls stifling innovation more and leading to less positive outcomes.
Now you answer what you think would happen?

Someone has to pay for the millions of illegals and their surgeries.

I don’t know, which is why I was asking.

That time was early WWII when wage controls left companies unable to compete on salaries to attract workers.
And also back when even the women ate steak and eggs for breakfast.

Doctors are just cogs in the machine really. Their hands are tied by insurance companies by and large. It's ridiculous that the government has allowed them that much power.
Agree, they are playing the system that they have.

Everyone wants to focus on doctors and how much SOME of them can make, but it isn't worth the bullshite. If you gave me a free pass to med school and paid for it, I still wouldn't want to put up with the bullshite they have to deal with on a daily basis.
Name an industry that pays well that doesn't deal with a ton of bullshiite. Yet, whenever other industries are asked to cut costs, there is usually an intense focus on the cost of labor. Yes, you can squeeze suppliers and other overhead costs, but the bulk of the costs that can be controlled is the cost of labor.
But that will never happen because currently, the law requires individuals to purchase insurance or pay a fine. Obamacare ripped out 2 major things that allowed insurance companies to subrogate risk by eliminating pre-existing conditions AND eliminating annual costs caps. Name one other insurance product that does that.

I thought Chief Justice Robert’s “tax” was reduced to $0 under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Sure, but they'll blame the doctor and hospital and not take responsibility. Not like they care so long as they can shift the blame.
