Baton Rouge Vet (near campus)

Anyone have any recs for good vet close to Southdowns area? Or anywhere is BR that is reasonable with good care? My current vet keeps going up on their prices and I need to find somewhere else to go. The rich people off Moss Side don’t mind paying a lot, but I gotta find something better. Especially for my big dog…

I think LSU has a vet school

They’re terrible and probably the most expensive in town. If you want a student vet to botch a procedure and kill one of your pets by all means go to LSU

Bluebonnet Animal Hospital. Dr. Ron is a good vet. Been taking my pup there for a while. Much cheaper than other Vets like Garden District. AVS is prob the cheapest, but I'm not a fan of them.

Siegen Lane Animal Hospital has been reasonable. The LSU Vet school is good, but as I hear it pretty expensive. There was a prior thread about multiple Vets who were still reasonably priced.

AVS is the answer. Not convenient in any way but cheap as hell. Been going for years.

Least expensive for checkups but most expensive for overnight stays. Better than any human hospital with more advanced care.

In my experience the Dr. did the actual procedure, they were up front about the price & saved my dogs life since we brought her in to be put down.

I hear good things about Sherwood vet but unsure of cost. Not “close” to lsu, so though. You could try the vet school to ask costs on routine care, we used them for emergency 2x when my daughter attended lsu. Not cheap for being a school, but is close.

Animal Health Clinic on Perkins but prices have risen since bought by a corporation. The best staff members got big promotions to the corporate office in Denver several years back.

bullshite. If your dog is very ill, LSU Vet School Clinic should be your first stop. There are numerous practicing Vets who will participate in the care of your dog. We have a 3-year-old female who was not doing well at all , and the vet school immediately diagnosed Addison's disease. She is now thriving.

AVS on greenwell springs is the only place I go. It's not close or convenient but their prices are less than a third of everyone else. The 30-minute drive is worth it for me to save 100 bucks or more per visit.

Our dog with protein losing enteropathy should never have lived to 14 but she’s still kicking and it’s 100% because of the LSU vet school. That said we’ve spent more money on the damn dog’s healthcare than on the kids…

Highland road animal hospital is right by the Superior on Highland. They're on the pricy side but the dr.s and staff are great.

Sherwood is not cheap. But Dr. Lee is amazing.

I found the vet students in charge to be pretty knowledgeable, but they are ridiculously expensive

If it’s the latter, then there’s your answer on why they’re so expensive.
