Driving the news: Tesla CEO Elon Musk stirred the pot last week with a blunt warning that workers would have to spend a “minimum of 40 hours per week” in the office, or find a new job.

It raised the question about whether other employers might also adopt a tougher stance.

-JPMorgan Chase's Jamie Dimon only recently softened his stance on remote work, and Goldman Sachs CEO

-David Solomon has been on a mission to return to the 5-day status quo.

-A March survey by Cleaning Coalition of America, which canvassed over 200 New York-based C-Suite executives, found that a whopping 76% think in-person work is essential to the bottom line.

Now people are talking about going to a 4 day workweek.

What do ya'll think about that?

Just started a fully remote role, and couldn't be happier... After hating it to start with, but after a few adjustments, couldn't see it any other way for myself going forward

However companies will go away from it completely as they revert back to pre COVID tendencies.

Already work 10 hour days. No way we could cut a whole day out, and not see negative affects.

Had a 4 day week, years ago. Absolutely, loved it. A day to get all the things you want to do done, before the rest of the family is home for the weekend.

4 day workweek looking a lot less likely than a 6 day workweek. Too many old people, not enough workers.

4-10's is awesome..
I had a job once that one week you'd have the Friday off and the next week you'd have the Monday off.. So every other weekend was a 4 day weekend. Wish like hell I still had that schedule.

Good, remote work has ruined the rural real estate market. regular folks out here can barely afford to rent, let alone buy.

I'm on 4 9's and a 4 on Friday. It's easier than 4 10's. Fridays are really nothing and plenty of time to get stuff done.

I worked at a school that after the first 6 weeks, we went 4 days a week. Fridays were for remediation 8:30-11:30. Teachers were paid extra if they came on fridays. Test scores for the school skyrocketed after instituting the 4 day week. Everyone worked harder to not have to come on Fridays.

this is the qualifier for that stat

quote:

In May, 7.4 percent of employed persons teleworked because of the coronavirus
pandemic, down from 7.7 percent in the prior month. These data refer to employed
persons who teleworked or worked at home for pay at some point in the 4 weeks
preceding the survey specifically because of the pandemic

That’s fairly clever.

In theory I like the idea of a 4 - 10 hour day work week. Hell, I would love a 40 hour work week. Problem is I do 60-70 hours a week regularly, there is no way for what I do to be a 40 hour week. I am not complaining because when I am busy I am well compensated but the idea of 4-10s has always been attractive to me.
