is it that tough to get in on your own merit?
It's a top 25 national university. Last year their admission rate was ~11%. 75% of their admitted students scored >=1420 on the SAT or 32 on the ACT. A 1400 on the SAT would put you in the top 6% nationally; 32 on ACT is top 3%. It's not on the Harvard/Stanford/MIT level of exclusivity, but students need to be very gifted academically or have some other special talent to get in.

The idea some folks have on this board that prison consists of permanently being gang raped is so extreme it makes me wonder what your basic perverted fantasies are.
Yeah there’s a lot of ignorance , not only on this board, but in society in general in re to that stuff.
Dont get me wrong, i’d never want to find myself in prison- but from all I’ve heard and read, the prison rape thing is pretty rare, and people are paid to make sure that things are peaceful most of the time.

Does anyone think she will be sentenced to over 10 years? So that puts her getting out after 3-4 years?
I know US government puts up a strong "don't turn down our plea bargain" facade, but 45 years would be absurd miscarriage of justice.

True story: A childhood friend's dad was arrested for embezzling life insurance policy payouts to the tune of over $500k. He did 28 months in a federal prison in Florida where he collected racquetball trophies, taught insurance courses to other inmates, got free treatment for his ailing back and pretty came out a new, fit man with a great tan.
I feel like Aunt Becky thinks she's going to a state pen instead of Club Fed.
Funny story, and that’d make me feel slightly better if i were in her position.. but i still say, why take the chance, since i’d rather live abroad in style and comfort than possibly spend 45 years in Club Fed.. and what if you have a judge who posts on the OT (not as far fetched as it sounds lol) and just wants to stick it to her ‘elite’ arse, sends her to something resembling a real prison? I’d cut my losses and hightail it if i were her.

Depends on all the charges and how many of them are served concurrently vs consecutively.
The high charging is likely for a number of things including tax fraud since they not only paid the guy to get their dumbass daughter into SC but also deducted it from their taxes.
If she had taken the plea deal, she likely would have made out like Felicity Huffman did. She spent two weeks in jail IIRC.

I don’t know how much in the way of resources she or Massimo have overseas to be able to live well.
The second she drops off the map, all their US assets will be frozen. They’re rich but not Marc Rich, who was able to buy a presidential pardon from Clinton.

Fed sentences are nearly year for year.

Throwing someone in jail for 45 years for what she did is an absolute absurdity.
Especially when Hillary frickin Clinton still roams the earth as she pleases.

Just looked it up and it said she could get up to 45 years? That’s absolutely ridiculous
That’s the maximum potential penalty. No chance she gets anything close to that.
She’ll get another plea bargain and will take it. She’ll probably still do some prison time , but I’m thinking low single digit years, low double digit months.
She won’t go to prison lickety-split ;) after sentencing, she’ll have some time to turn herself in.

She’d just flee the country if she thought she was going to get real time like that.

Jeez. I had no idea she was facing that kind of time. I wanted her and the others to face repurcussions, but I didnt mean 45 freaking years.
What exactly is the difference between what they have on her, as opposed to the other lady, who spent like 10 days in prison iirc.
