As did that kid who raped an unconscious girl. His parents didn't think his life should be affected because he made 'one bad decision one night." No jail time. There are plenty examples of wealthy people getting off with no jail time.

If rich people want to buy their kids a way into college wtf is the problem with that anyways? Make a way for them to do that. Is the college not able to expand to make room for everyone willing to pony up 500k for a seat? That opens doors for not just their kid but covers the overhead to allow others in as well. It seems absurd to not allow them to do so.
Now that’s her dumbarse fault for trying to deduct it in her taxes and she does deserve jail time for that, but the idea that the wealthy shouldn’t be able to buy their way in makes no sense.

They did more than attempt to buy their way in. They cheated on entrance tests, falsified their application, falsified both their athletic and academic records. Plus they created fake charities so paying for all the fake records would be tax deductible.

Didn’t Singer fake Laughlin’s daughter’s transcript, test scores, and athletic history? Supposedly this happened without the daughter knowing.
45 years is absurd - but what happened is still pretty fricked up. It totally screws over the kids that actually are qualified to be at that school and on those teams.
Anyone listen to the Gangster Capitalism podcast on this? It’s worth a listen if you haven’t heard it.

The fact that she even gets a single second in prison is painfully stupid.

This, had she offered to simply cut the school a check and they accepted she would not be in trouble, it is the multiple frauds associated with this as well as tax evasion she is going to jail for.
