quote:More to it than that but as far as the religious aspect, yep, I just go along with it. Doesn't bother me. Besides, people like yourself (not talking about all Christians) start threads every year bitching about the atheists that don't go along with it. Make up your minds already.
Do they just go along with it

Are you asking why I celebrate a pagan holiday?
Posted on 12/2/19 at 9:14 pm to FLTech
For most people, Christmas isn’t much of a religious holiday.

Christmas is a fake holiday regardless, the birth of Jesus would not have happened in the middle of winter.

Why do Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on a day that was never his birthday? Winter solstice has been a time of celebration long before they exist and will be after they are gone. I wouldn’t mind if we went back to calling it Saturnalia and I don’t believe in Saturn either.
Christians shouldn’t play this game, all their lovely Christmas traditions are stolen from other religions and celebrations.

I’m an atheist but still dig Santa. I hang atheist ornaments on my Santamas tree.
Mostly to piss off my wife.

I don't believe in atheism.
Do they know the real story of the origin of the universe? I'm sorry but I don't think self-proclaimed atheists are any different from the rest of us. For that matter, neither are dyed-in-the-wool Christians who "know that they know that they know" they're "saved."
You don't know, I don't know, no one knows. Some of us just choose to be asses and pretend we do. Most of us honor the traditions of our ancestors in a dignified way and have faith (not knowledge) that those ancestors knew something. That's what's normal and sane.

“Faith” can actually be the antithesis of “normal” or “sane.”
There are those who have honored the tradition of their ancestors in a dignified way and refused blood transfusions because their religion says it’s a sin. They had faith they would be cured. They typically die.

You know Jesus wasn't actually born in December, right?

Anyone who does that is more a part of the "know that they know that they know" crowd (which I admitted to be full of crap) than they are a part of the "faith in the ways of their ancestors" crowd. I mean, you have to exhibit some pretty irrational certitude to refuse medical advice.
And how many Christian Scientists had Christian Scientist 'ancestors' anyway? That shite hasn't even been around that long. I guess technically my grandparents were ancestors, but that wasn't exactly what I was getting at.

But by this logic anybody who believes in an old religion is right, even if the religions contradict each other.

Because their kids love it and it’s a time to give gifts to family
