Come on. I 100% know the difference. That was my entire point.

"God doesn't exist" = wackjob

"I know God exists because I had some spiritual experience" = wackjob

Refusing blood transfusion = wackjob

Getting pissy about having a blessing at Thanksgiving = wackjob

Atheists are more like die-hard Christians than they are like agnostics. They're both varieties of wackjob.

One variety of wackjob is more palatable to the rest of us at family gatherings (e.g. funerals). So, if you just can't be a quiet, humble, dignified agnostic (which is what 90% of people actually are, whether they admit it or not), at least be the religious kind of wackjob. You will be marginally less likely to be a turd in the punch bowl... marginally.

Do they just go along with it because it is a fake holiday for them and they can give/receive gifts and great deals, and Christmas bonuses? Or do they actually celebrate the birth of Jesus?

I’m, hmmm, agnostic I guess. Grew up Christian. All of my family is Christian. I like Christmas. I like both secular and religious parts of it. I go to church with my family on Christmas Eve.

Not all agnostic/atheist people are fricking spiteful trolls who shite in religion.

But by this logic anybody who believes in an old religion is right, even if the religions contradict each other.

It's almost as if we don't know which one is actually 100% true and you should just arbitrarily follow the one your family has traditionally followed (instead of being penny-ante, fedora-wearing Richard Dawkins of the grown-up table).

If only someone would post that 3 or 4 different times, using slightly different wording, until people got it...

Yeah I don’t agree with you man. I don’t see evidence for any of them (that’s a whole other debate, let’s not start it) so why should I just go with one?

My viewpoint is I’m not believing or following any of them until something happens that convinces me of their claims. It would probably literally take Jesus appearing from the sky for me to be convinced

If Jesus sends me to hell for that, then so be it, I don’t think it’s an unreasonable request for him to show up once in a while to remove the doubts that every single human being harbors deep in the back of their heads.

I'm not sure that's what he's saying. He seems to be saying that agnosticism is the reasonable default position, but if you're going to be a hardcore believer in one or the other, then he would prefer you side with more traditional beliefs, ie, religious beliefs.

USME, correct me if that's not what you're meaning.

Yeah, if god is real, then he made me this way. He made me question everything. To be logical. Why punish me for that? Why does it have to be a game? If he needs to be worshiped, come on out and say so.

JWs have been around since the 1800s and believe blood transfusions are a sin. They have faith god will save them from disease even when medical professionals tell them they will die. That’s faith, and it’s not normal.

I don't know what you think atheism is USM, but this is from Webster's

quote:

disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.

I haven't seen any evidence for anything supernatural therefore I don't believe in any God or gods. That's all there is to it. I don't have an agenda or creed or wear a fedora.

I'm supposed to go sit in church because my grandparents did? Give me a break.

Christmas is a federal holiday. That makes it secular. It also is a religious holiday celebrated by many of the religious.

Atheists celebrate Christmas because Christmas is for everybody and atheists are part of everybody.

Considering Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday in Mexico ginned up by Mexican beer importers in the US to sell more Mexican beer, this checks out.

I’m an atheist. I celebrate Christmas for lots of reasons, primarily because I was brought up celebrating it. I love getting together with friends and family. I like giving presents. I like the festivities and the holiday cheer. I like coming home for it. I like the music and the movies, warm fires and good food/drinks.

All of this. A lot of it us just tradition now as I was raised celebrating Christmas. It's a great chance to visit and celebrate with family.

how about this one?

I was raised in a Christian household who didn't celebrate Christmas, but now as an atheist/agnostic/whatever, I celebrate Christmas.
