There have been gunshot suicides before which weren’t headshots.
At least two of the Von Erich brothers (wrestlers) committed suicide through a high powered handgun shot to the chest so they could die yet have an open casket funeral.
A third OD’ed on Placydyls, which was a much easier way to go.

No. You didn't know her. I didn't know her particularly well. Hadn't actually seen or spoken to any of the family since I graduated HS with Ashley in '86. I can tell you this though, Naomi was about as far from narcissistic as a person could possibly be. She was a very kind, nice, and approachable person who loved her family.
The fact that a person makes use of plastic surgery for his or her appearance has very little to do with them being self-centered. Naomi Judd was most definitely NOT self-centered.

In the interview, Diane Sawyer said Ashley gone outside to bring in the "comforting person who had arrived" to see Naomi. Perhaps, that's why she didn't hear the gunshot. Naomi may have also used a pillow or something to muffle the noise. Who knows. They obviously do not wish to share any other details.

This is the one detail that stuck with me from all of the stories about this. Until now, I had thought that she must have taken pills and was discovered before she died and brought to the hospital or something where her daughters got to see here and were with her when she died. Second theory was that it was an assisted suicide and they were present.
This just doesn’t add up to me.

To clarify, when I used the word vain, I was solely refering to her plastic surgery/appearance. I was not refering to her personality.
One doesn't get all that "work" done unless they were concerned about appearance.
People can be vain about a variety of things. It doesn't necessarily make them self-centered or narcissistic.

Did I know them? Yeah. Speak with them? Yeah. Hang out with them as a close friend? No.
I guess people can change over three decades. Ashley certainly did. Hollywood did a number on the way she viewed the world and made her a hate-filled person I had not known before. Maybe her mother had changed as well, but like you said, I wasn't a close friend of the family. I just never got the impression that she was vain about her appearance.

She wrote a book 6 or 7 years ago about her battle with depression and mentioned then that her husband stopped her when she had a gun to her head one night.

I just watched a close family member grieve over the loss of a lifelong friend who committed suicide. On Friday the deceased was out with his child and grandchild at a park. Pictures posted to social media show the deceased smiling, playing, and from every outward indication seemingly very happy. The next days he kills himself. His child and grandchild had no inclination something was seriously wrong and that their father/grandfather would commit suicide literally the very next day.
