How does someone dumb enough to fall for these scams accrue $275,000? I just don't get it.

Elderly, with dementia or Alzheimer's. They are victims

Ain't just scammers.

Can't tell you the number of monthly donations to charities I had to cancel when I took over my mom's finances. It was like every time she saw a commercial she would call.

The elderly in the South grew up with an ethos of trust, kindness, and hospitality. They could never envision someone being so corrupt to scam them so they treat it as legit.

Moreover, they don't always confer with their children or others thinking they 'don't want to bother them again.'

In most respects, they have been a blessing to family and nation and now they are vulnerable. So much has changed so much for them.

The elderly who came through the depression or WWII, or were raised by parents that came through those slim times, were vv frugal.

Hopefully gets deported after serving a long prison sentence.

Tough call but I think you let him get bail then skip town to wherever the frick he’s from self deporting. That way he’s out of the country and if he tries to come back he’s got charges to deal with. If you let him serve his sentence here, who knows what the country will be like when he gets out and he might be allowed to stay.

Doesn't appear to be the $hi7head that tried scam me for a "failure to appear" warrant last year.

My scammers sounded like a pair of middle aged black guys.

One of these people called us the other day and said there was a warrant for missed jury duty.

That's EXACTLY the same one I got.

There was a couple of fines attached to the warrant and if I went to the Sheriff's office, they would have no choice but to arrest me, so if I paid the fine first that would prevent the arrest.

The way I was to pay it was go to a kiosk, deposit the money and give them the deposit code.

I was instructed not to tell anyone nor to hang up the phone.

My wife got a deputy to come and he got in on the call. No way that he could have caught them.

This is why it is a good idea to meet with your kids annually to discuss your finances. They can also keep tabs on your lucidity.
