Ascension resident scammed out of $275,000, Houston man arrested.

Zulkar Nain, of Houston, TX, is facing multiple charges including impersonating a police officer.
Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies say the victim, whose name was not released, was targeted through electronic communication between May and August 2026.
In the scam, APSO says Nain presented himself as a police officer telling the victim there was an active warrant for their arrest. That’s when he allegedly instructed the victim to send money through cryptocurrency ATMs, gift cards, and FedEx shipments.
Deputies say Nain went further with the scam when he allegedly threatened violence. Out of fear, the victim met Nain in person and made three separate cash transactions for a total of $90,000, deputies said.
Detectives were able to identify Nain as their suspect. They arrested Nain and booked him into the Ascension Parish Jail. He’s now facing multiple charges including theft over $25,000, exploitation of the elderly/infirmed, illegal transmission of monetary funds, false personation of a peace officer and exploitation.
Deputies are continuing the investigation to determine if there are any other victims.
“The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reminds residents that legitimate law enforcement agencies will never call and demand money to resolve an arrest warrant or other criminal matter. Law enforcement will not instruct you to send money through gift cards, FedEx, cryptocurrency or Bitcoin ATMs, Western Union, or other money-transfer services,” APSO said in a release.
“We also encourage families to talk with elderly loved ones about these types of scams. Scammers often use fear, urgency, and threats to pressure victims into acting quickly before they have an opportunity to ask someone for help. Remind your loved ones that it is always okay to hang up, call a trusted family member, and contact law enforcement directly before sending any money. If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be a member of law enforcement and demanding money, hang up and contact your local law enforcement agency directly,” APSO added.

Worried about this with my dad. He's got Alzheimer's and it's progressing really quickly. My mom says he gets calls and texts from people claiming they're Elon Musk and people like that and that poor baw believes them just because of where he's at now in life. It's sad and frick these people who try and take advantage of elderly people. May they all join me in burning in hell.

Yeah, if you have elderly parents please explain to them if they are approached/called by someone with a foreign accent then it's 99.9% a scam.

You have to lock down his finances. Scammers are only a nuisance if there’s no money available.

One of these people called us the other day and said there was a warrant for missed jury duty. fricked with him a bit. He was relentless. Said you have to drive to the sheriff's office but stay on the phone with him the entire time. Super aggressive. Looked it up on Reddit because I wasn't piecing together how the scam works, but apparently they redirect you while you're driving to sheriff's office to stop somewhere for gift cards or whatever.
What's crazy is tons of people fell for it. And these were people who frequent the /r/scams subreddit! People are dumb.

That's just it. There are a lot of people out there that are dumber than dirt, especially old people with diminishing brains and a lot of those old people have accrued money. They have to be protected. I wouldn't have a problem with crushing that guys hands with a hammer.
I get scam phone calls almost daily. You call the number back and Verizon says the call can't be completed. There have to suckers who fall for their pitch to make the inundation of calls worthwhile. I wonder how many scam calls are made in this country on a daily basis.

I am elderly, I'm just not a fool. If someone is so far gone as to fall for these scams, they shouldn't be living alone, driving, and many other activities that require mental awareness. Families need to take care of the elderly.
