2007 double murder at the Edward Gay apartments ring a bell? Why not be prepared to defend yourself against TPOS? You obviously have no experience with what scum lies in and around the LSU campus.

Just be prepared to retreat to your panic room. You have a panic room, right?

I can't wait until I move. I'm currently on the ground floor of my current place, but we are moving at the end of the month and will be on the third (top) floor. Plus it's gated and like 10 miles outside out city limits. I always get paranoid here even though I take the dog out at 1 or 2 am most nights and nothing is there

You fricking liar! Autocorrect doesn't change words to random letters that aren't even real words like invation.

He also chaced a deer that morning

Chaced? Did autocorrect also come up with this random assortment of letters?

You should throw your computer away if the auto correct changed invasion to invation. Seeing as how that word doesn't exist.

Chances are extremely high that no one will ever break into your home while you are there. Criminals want no interaction for the most part.
That being said, I'd be licking my chops if someone kicked in the door while I was home.

This fricking iPhone I have does! I swear, I've never had a device autocorrect and produce words that are gibberish like this Ip6 does.

OP, we are constantly barraged with media stories of violence perpetrated on individuals. I think your fear of a home invasion is a rational response. Hell, I get up and go check things out if I hear something that doesn't sound right. I don't think it's anything extraordinary. Just a natural response to something of which you're afraid.

I wouldn't say I'm scared per se, but it definitely crosses my mind every now and then. I thought about it hard the other day and realized if it did happen while we were asleep or in bed we'd have no real protection.

So I'm planning on taking a concealed carry class next week and getting something. (I know I don't need concealed carry for a gun in my house, but if I'm gonna get a hand gun I'd like the option of bringing with me).

I live alone on the ground floor in Baton Rouge with both a front and back door. I was already broken into and plan on getting a security system very soon

Not scared but well aware it could happen. A smash and grab is easy to pull off if your home has no early warning system, i.e.: video with motion sensor notification, well lighted exterior, and most of all, the best early warning system - dog that heads to the door at any sounds outside and growls/barks at movement out there.

Never crosses my mind. Three big dogs and alarm make me feel very safe. I will have plenty of time to grab my weapons if it ever comes to that.

ETA: And it almost happened once when I was out of town. Someone knocked on our front door after midnight. My two danes went ape shite. Wife didn't open it obviously, but all of a sudden my male dane (large for a dane - about 210 and nasty as shite when he needed to be) took off for the back sliders. My wife said he was standing up on his hind legs pounding on them (he was about 6'2" when standing). She said he almost broke the glass banging so hard. We both think the front door was a diversion for someone to slip in the back. Needless to say, the situation ended there. Front door guy left and no trace of anyone in the back yard. Dogs work!

Im not scared, Im prepared. If someone comes through my door uninvited then they are doing so with horrible intentions and I will do what I have to do to stop the threat and defend myself and everyone under my roof. My doors stay locked so as to eliminate a point of easy entry. If someone comes into my house, then they had to work to get in. It is then my duty to stop the threat. Knowing this, I don't lose any sleep, but I am conscious of it and think of it often.

I have an 80 lb. golden doodle. Hardly a vicious animal, but his bark sounds like a pissed off mastiff trained to kill.

Burglars don’t know he’s a golden doodle

And somehow, this motherfricker can hear someone walking on our sidewalk quietly in the middle of the night 40 feet in front of our house, with a dog or not. I wouldn’t be able to hear these people if I was outside standing next to them, but he hears them sound asleep upstairs in our bed and goes to the window and barks.

Best alarm system there is.
