My dog will bark but it's only if it's a door opening and such. We were camping one night and a dog ran up on us and he had a real deep growl and then started barking. I opened the tent and he took off after it.

He also chaced a deer that morning. He froze Herodes hand though.

You got an alarm system? Those at least give you a heads up.

I need a dog that does more than bark, tbh. If it doesn't attack an intruder, I have no use for it.

Do you have a family?

When I lived alone for several years it pretty much never crossed my mind. Now with the wife and kid I have a security system, a Doberman, and a gun near the bed. I think about it and plan for the scenario

Protective/paranoid instinct kicking in...

I live down a very long gravel road. Surrounded by homes with visibly nicer things. I have an AR by the bed, a high capacity 12 gauge in a compartment under the platform of the bed, a hand gun in each night stand, and two rather large dogs who are aggressive with anyone uninvited.

I also routinely walk outside at night with a gun to check out the garden and yard.

Scared of a home invasion? Short of burning the house down from outside, this would be a nightmare to get into.

Not at all, except maybe by the 4 legged kind. I have had a bear in my place at night dragging out the trash.

There it is.

Get what you need - security system, guns, dogs, etc to give you better peace of mind. Other than that just accept being on high alert the rest of your life as man's natural duty.

I have visibility from all angles of my house from different windows, a neighbor with a security video system, adt stickers in the yard, a gun, and a dog.

It's happened more than once at my place.

Someone had one drop through the skylight at their kids 1 year birthday party.

It's keeping me up every now and then. Babys room is on the other end of the house.

When my oldest was young I was extremely paranoid. Didn't sleep much, checked the baby every hour or so. Checked the oven over and over, doors, windows, etc. It's actually what started my love affair with alcohol.

Once when the wife was first pregnant I jumped out of bed in the middle of the night, mumbled for her to hide and was reaching for the gun when she snapped me out of it.

After the Beauregard town murder, I've always been on edge. When I lived in BR, while attending LSU, Gardere was down the road which was unnerving. I kept a loaded glock.40 in my nightstand just to be safe. I was more concerned with leaving the library late at night after studying. When I would walk to my car it always felt like I had eyes watching me by the North Gates.

Please tell me you're a woman?

Men don't get scared walking across campus at night.

Men are the things rapists, thugs, and criminals fear running into at night.
