No experience with livestock guardian breeds huh?

They aren't normal dogs. They will tolerate just about anything if you are cool with it. Without guidance, they are a bit more... Protective... than most.

No. Ferocious sounding guard dogs tell potential intruders it ain't worth it to try and breach my domicile.

I'm not scared of a home invasion, but feel like I'm prepared.

I have weapons and a wife who shoots better than I do. Taking basic precautions helps too.

After an incident a few years ago where someone attempted to help themselves to my utility trailer, I feel quite secure having an armed, paranoid retired LEO for a neighbor. Things did not go as planned for the thieves.

Nothing too dramatic. They just got held at gunpoint until the cops arrived. I guess from their viewpoint it was plenty dramatic.

That's why most here defend owning a gun. It's an obvious answer for those folks.

1.) Vast majority of "home invasions" involve parties who know each other and/or drugs & criminal activity between the two parties. So, the best way to avoid a home invasion is not to be involved in criminal activity. As has been stated in this thread, people who want your stuff don't want you to be there.

2.). You have a Glock in your night stand, a shotgun under your bed, and an AR in the bedroom closet. That's awesome. But unless you are in the habit of carrying in your house, your arsenal is not gonna do you any good if you are watching TV on the couch with your pecker in your hand. The invader isn't going to wait while you run down the hall to arm yourself.

Im not afraid of home invasion because I'm not a target. I may get burglarized while I'm not home, but that's why I have cameras and a security system.

Not scared at all and almost welcome it. We do have an alarm which will only be used to let me know that the guns can be taken off of safety. There's nothing that I HATE more than a thief and nothing I love more than my little family. It would be my pleasure to watch buck shoot pepper that arse. I can honestly say that I've never lost a second of sleep because of the fear of home invasion.

BS. Most of houses on my street have been hit. Middle to upper class area. The only criminal activity is from the home invaders, not the residents.

Two dogs that will make racket if someone tries to come in and a CZ82 under the pillow.

Only time I ever get a little scared is when my husband goes out of town for work. If it happens to be on nights I'm off....it's a little unnerving going to sleep by myself in our house.

I make both my dogs sleep in the bed with me if my husband is out of town(even though normally our pug is not allowed on our bed). Luckily our lab mix will bark(loudly) if he hears anything outside.

So you are saying that most of the houses on your street have had the doors kicked in or been broken into while the residents were still home?

That's all fine and dandy but to say it never happens otherwise is disingenuous. I can think of 3 instances this past year just off the top of my head here in Nola where homes were invaded with people home. These were all in decent neighborhoods, not some drug deals gone bad or whatnot.

In one instance the family was killed. The other, the girl that was home was raped (this was down the block from my good friends house, and he got a gun shortly after). And the 3rd one was broad daylight and the woman escaped somehow.

Although it's rare, being prepared for it is smart and not to be scoffed at. Better safe than sorry.

On a more personal note, my parents were home invaded a long time ago before I was born. My mom was pregnant with my older sister. A couple of guys bust in, tied them up, and took everything.

damn man that sucks seriously

my house was invaded when i was in kindagarden, they broke in my house and stole my piggy bank and bubble gum machine (i had a real one lol) and my collection of nintendo games. They also made spaghetti and left some on the counter which I ate when I got home (seriously). Never caught them but my mom bought a gun afterwards and we got an alarm. They must have watched us to know we would be gone literally all day everyday on mondays / wednesdays
