I do not want to ask the Politards. I think the OT has a healthy mix of pros and cons on this and for different reasons.
Are you hopeful that LA one day can have a policy maybe SOMEWHAT similar to Colorado or Washington or do you feel that will/should never be?
Just your honest thoughts.

I don't want it taxed or regulated either.
Why should it be treated differently than any other legal good or service that is already taxed today?

I don’t really care what other people do. But I hate walking down the street and smelling it. I think the guy down the street smokes about a pound a day.

Only a matter of time, sparky.

It is expensive, harmful, and downright silly to continue to prosecute marijuana.
This is an angry topic in the medical and legal community ONLY because of the status quo. Decriminalizing marijuana will cost the beneficiaries of mass incarceration a lot of money and inconvenience.

Yes. That it is illegal is retarded.

No thank you.
Whatever’s in that stuff turns off the ambition and drive of a good percentage of the users.
There are always exceptions of course but the “stoners” crowd was always pretty lazy.

Every word of this is true but do you really want untold millions of tax dollars going to harrass and jail/supervise harmless idiots? Which is the bigger drain on society: a person with great potential working a deadend job and spending his free time eating Cheetos and watching cartoons or a militarized small town police force dedicated to "serving and protecting" his lazy arse straight to jail?
And most pot users are capable of using it occassionally. Let the burnouts carry the weight of their decisions without corrupting law enforcement with drug enforcement powers and riches. Most of the burnouts do seem happy with the Cheetos and the cartoons.

Legalize all drugs to people 18 and over. Educate the hell out of them every year in school on recreational drugs. Make it a standard part of the curriculum with tests.
There are tons of laws outlawing drugs now on the books. People are still doing them. At least they'd be well educated before doing them with the way stated above. Let's face it, the "legal" stuff put out by the pharmaceutical industry kills people everyday. That's ok though because fat cats with political connections made money off of those drug sales.
Just my 2 cents

So you hate children, huh?
Prohibition hasn't worked a single time in the history of man. All it does is create a black market and free money/labor for those implementing it.

Asset forfeiture is nothing less than the government stealing from its citizens. Just saw an article the other day where a federal appeallate court ruled that the government didn’t have to return seized assets after the accused was acquitted. That’s awful.
Asset forfeiture is so bad that I didn’t think it was real the first time I read about it. Just seemed way too absurd to be happening here.

That is because the forfeiture proceedings are a civil proceeding and are totally separate from the criminal proceedings. Burden is a preponderance for the government in the forfeiture proceedings and beyond a reasonable doubt in the criminal proceedings. The crazy thing to me is that a person has 30 days to respond to a notice of forfeiture (which is usually served to them the day they get arrested and are still incarcerated). If they dont respond within 30 days the government keeps the assets, no questions asked.
Forfeiture proceedings are pretty complex. The goverment can also use statements you make during the civil proceedings - oral or written - against you in your criminal case. The 5th Amendment doesnt protect you there. The rationale that the courts have used is "you could have just not responded to the forfeiture."

I think people in the "stoner crowd" were going to be lazy whether their drug of choice was Xbox or weed.
I'm an attorney and I can tell you that there are plenty of attorneys that regularly smoke weed with no affect on their work or life. The number is much larger than would qualify as the "exception."
Lazy people are lazy and driven people are driven, whether or not they smoke weed.

It should be completely legal. No bs licenses or medical prescriptions. The only restriction, arguably, should be age, like with alcohol or tobacco.

Would this increase or decrease police activity around the drug? LA is short on officers as it is. I'm all for anything that will lessen their work load.
