Are there any store brands that you prefer over the leading name brands?

One that I always find better is the Great Value restaurant style salsa over the name brands. It just always tastes better to me.

I went to Aldi for the first time today and I bought their private brands of grits and American cheese slices. Haven't tried them yet, but we'll see. I did try their private brand kettle cooked chips and they were very good, but I don't know that I'd say they were BETTER than Zapps, Lays, etc. I did read that Aldi's ketchup was pretty much identical to Heinz, but didn't get any yet.

I did read online that Costco tends to use very well known brand related companies to produce a lot of their store brands. I'm not a Costco member though, so I can't confirm.

Great value taco shells. They are bigger than the brand shells and hold up better as well.

The great value pizzas are pretty good. I get my kids the 3 meat all the time.

Most of Walmart's private label stuff is made by the big brands. Part of the negotiations for shelf space is that the big brands make the private label stuff at a stupid cheap price to get more space for their name brand product. You will see brands like Nabisco, Pillsbury, Saralee, Kraft making all those GV items.

Great Value for any type of frozen potato.

Ore Ida puts some kind of seasoning on all of their stuff that I don’t like.
