Shitty drivers
Im assuming they are serviced on time.
Do they report minor wrecks?

What info am I missing.
The used car market is still fricked. Also, has every car in Louisiana been in a wreck?

Looking for a first car for my kid.

I wouldn't...people act like fools in rentals, meaning they are ridden hard.

That's like asking if a hooker is good wife material.

We’ve bought used cars that were rentals before and it worked out fine. However, since the car market was extremely tight a couple years ago, the rental companies have held on to their cars a little longer, resulting in more use and wear. I’d be careful buying a used rental now. Have it looked at by a mechanic before you buy or try to get a year warranty, or something to protect yourself.

I bought a 2003 Ford Expedition from Enterprise R-A-C years ago and had no issues with the vehicle. However, I've noticed recently these companies hold on to their cars way longer than they did in the past.

I worked ar Hertz fresh out of college. They would cap cars at 60k and then send them to auction. Oil changes every 7500 miles. The cars were ragged out. 60k for a normal driver is about 150 k for a rental. Just a word to the wise, id avoid at all cost. Of course there are exceptions, but this was my experience.

In January 2020, I bought a 19 Ram that was a rental. It had 32,000 on it. Paid 25k.
The truck currently has 244,000 miles on it today and is still rolling. This truck has driven to every southern state. Outside of oil and tire changes, the only work I’ve had to do was replace the water pump. By far the best vehicle I have ever had and still drives like it’s new.
If you take care of your vehicle, it will last as long as you need it to.

I’ve bought each of my kids a car from Hertz.

We are 3/3 so far with good cars.

Remember, 80% of cars at CarMax and other places like that are used rental cars as well.

Hertz sells what they judge to be the best 10% of cars themselves and the rest they sell to CarMax.

One of the few places to find 3,4 year old Toyotas or Hondas which is what I wanted to get them.

You'll never get the smell of weed and Xmas tree air freshener out of it.

Like any used car you need to check it out.

Minor damage is not a big deal of its fixed correctly or price is adjusted.

Also your teenager will probably bang it up anyways.

why does it matter if it's been in a wreck, especially if it's for a kid's first car? Most likely the kid is gonna wreck it also.

Yep. Thankfully my wife was driving an older Honda that we gave to the youngest. I know the maintenance history, and it still runs like a top, so I'll let her drive that in high school.

She hasn't hit another vehicle yet but she's met a few curbs. I'd bet more than 50% wreck their first vehicle.

My issue is not cosmetic. I assume my kid will bang it up also.

I have always assumed that having been in a wreck, it will be more likely to have mechanicals issues sooner.
Maybe that’s a wrong assumption.

I rent a lot of cars 'cos I go on the road. When I drive a rental car, I don't know what's going on with it. A lot of times I drive for ten miles with the emergency brake on. That doesn't say a lot for me, but it really doesn't say a lot for the "emergency brake". It's really not an emergency brake, it's an emergency "make the car smell funny lever". - Mitch Hedberg

I don't understand the logic of driving a rental any different than your own car. Same as renting a condo. If you are tearing something up simply because it's not yours, you are an a-hole.

I've driven rentals several times. I always drove them as I would my own vehicle. I feel most people that drive rentals do the same, but maybe I'm wrong.
