The problem is not the breed. The problem is people trying to use hounds for house pets.

Fair enough. Yes, from what I've seen, they should be strictly outside dogs.

Why do you let other people bring their animals to your house anyway? Screw that, that's why pet boarding places exist.

Like most dog breeds, they really should be kept outside, and they need a job. Hounds suffer from the curse of being very cute and energetic puppies, so many lines have had the "hunt" mostly bred out of them in the name of becoming pets. It's tough to breed out the stubbornness and instinct though and they're inhertily tough to make into house dogs. It can be done though. I have an English coonhound who I could definitely keep in my house if I had to, as long as I had my GPS shock collar on him.

I've had a few different breeds and mixed breeds but I think my Bassett hound (female) was my favorite. She was the biggest of her litter, which may have contributed to having such a unique personality.

Certain sounds would make her howl, although it was infrequent. She was definitely the cutest puppy I've ever had. As an adult, she would 'talk' in different dog ways (like other breeds) where you knew what she was trying to say. Her life centered around food.

She was definitely slobbery, dirty, often smelly, and often shedding. Not the breed for everyone and the one of the toughest moments was having her in my arms when we put her to sleep (cancer).

Well that's not the dog's fault then. Blame your sister for everything that you just ranted about.

Some dogs, especially some hounds, just will not be trained. It doesn't mean they're stupid or the owner is stupid/lazy/incompetent. For a hound to be a house pet, lots of pieces have to fall into place for it to work, one of those being a lack of prey drive and willingness to be lazy. Neither of those is natural to any hound breed.

It's not the dog's fault, it's the owner's.

Dog owners who are female, are usually horrible dog owners. I knew one girl who was a nurse who had a huge arse German Shepard she would just leave inside her house for 12 hours a day when she worked as a nurse, then would get mad at the dog for tearing up shite inside the apartment. These kind of “dog lovers” are often very selfish and cruel to the animal

Right along with goldendoodles.

Ugly AF. I get the shedding/allergy thing. If I had that issue, I'd just do without.

Edit: lol at the downvotes. Y'all sensitive about your overpriced, ugly assed mutts.

I’ve seen this on plenty of occasions. How do new users even manage this? Random arse Google searches and come across a TD thread and make an acct to comment on something that matched their search?

When I intentionally look for an old thread I can’t even dig it up.
