Are Bassett hounds one of the worst dog breeds?

My sister in law is at our place and her Bassett hound puppy is driving me insane. Stubborn, stupid, smelly dog with no redeeming qualities. I'm a dog person but this is a bridge too far. Also don't trust it being around our infant. She is planning on it being an apartment dog. No way that will work as the dumb dog howls the second it's left alone.

I like them a lot because they are such goobers...mine used to trip over his ears when he was walking across the yard. he would get up with this puzzled assed look on his face and look around wondering who the frick just tripped him... 
wouldn't want any hound in the house though, as they have a terrible cloud of funk around them most of the time.

My experience with Bassett Hounds were the exact opposite. Very calm, lazy, lovable.

I've had two. I've owned labs my whole life. I learned with the first one that you can't treat them like labs. They are really strong willed. Stubborn as can be. However, they are funny and pretty loveable. I washed mine every week, so smell wasn't bad. They are also pack dogs and don't like being alone, thus the howling. First Bassett liked beer, he was my college dog. ??
My second Bassett, I still have. I was much more alpha male with him from day one. He's an awesome dog. Much more compliant. He was an inside dog for six years until we had our first kid. He and the black lab have been outside since.

What is wrong with you? Basset hounds are dumb, loveable, and great with kids.
