This will not apply to those who are very politically connected or who have a bunch of $$$..

I feel like this is going to just be abused and used and then expanded by Amazon apple via the govt to target what ever citizens are not toeing the current political lines. Next it will be "illegal" activity aka 2nd amendment and more location data like was used during jan6 it's crazy the times we live in.

All that data and they didn't target any of the real riots but the riot that didn't burn down and pillage any buildings or city blocks it's crazy

This is not the real reason they are allowing this algorithm into the icloud.

Biden voters are torn on this. They think child abuse and molestation is a good thing, but also they hate privacy

Apple will enable all the suspect photos to be decrypted
Then what's the fricking point of encryption?

We have all been lulled to sleep by the convenience and low cost of all these cloud services, and we've ignored the real costs. This kind of thing will not stop, it will only get worse.

Do yourself a favor and look into running your own "cloud" in your own home, under your control. Talk to your local geek. It will cost some money up front, but it will save you a lot down the road. And not just money.

Wasn't Apple the company that refused to unlock an iPhone for the FBI or whoever to look through because they didn't have a warrant? I remember reading something like that.

I'm pleased to see that you've come down on this side of this issue. See if you can convince Crimsontwat to join you.

re you a child abuser? I dont abuse children so I have nothing to worry about if they look for those images on my phone.

This makes perfect sense.

It's why I think the Biden Administration should force the hand of local law enforcement to make sure that all residents leave their blinds open at all times, especially at night. That way LEOs can easily see inside to ensure nothing illegal is taking place, and when LE is not around neighbors can more easily monitor the goings on of the neighborhood and alert the authorities.

Honestly, it would be better if we just had clear walls. Maybe that can be added to the Infrastructure bill. And some of you may be thinking to yourself, "Hey...that's an intrusion on my privacy!" Nope...sorry sicko! If you don't have anything to hide, then there is absolutely no reason why the government or any corporation should not have full and easy access to see into your home 24/7.

The only way this ought to bother you is if you have something to hide...

What other data might Apple scan without informing the phone owner?

This is a bad, bad idea.

The iPhone, apps, and data collection gave Gov't (and others) overlord potential.

The same iPhone that many people use to post their anti-VAX points of view on social media, anti-VAX views premised on not giving Gov't overlord status.
