I think this is more about previously identified images. Sort of like searching the FBI fingerprint database. So if a certain picture has been found in a previous arrest, that picture has a unique identifier than can be searched for. I don’t think this means they will be looking through every picture of a child anyone takes with their iPhone.
That’s my understanding anyway. Definitely a slippery slope though.

I've believed since that whole fiasco that Apple gave the FBI access almost immediately, but went through the whole court circus as a marketing ploy.

I’m the first person that will gladly watch a child abuser or pedophile have a gruesome death but i also believe that you can’t have things just one way and feeling ok that they just take your pics and give them to law enforcement just cause they can is complete BS.
