The iPhone 17 was literally brand new around 6 months ago and they are already coming out with the 18. Goodness gracious Apple.
Not to defend Apple- but the 17 came out almost a year ago.. also, the 18 pro and 18 pro max were released this week, but the base 18 (and I think the iPhone Air 2 ?) wont be released until Spring 2027.. incidentally I just bought a 17 last week, hoping to beat the rush and the price increase on Apple products soon.. my plan is to keep this phone for minimum 5 years (no joke) and hopefully 7 or 8 years.. by that time, ill be old enough to switch to a Jitterbug lol .
Seriously though, the older I get the more I enjoy basic, analog stuff- from the truck I drive, to the watches I wear, et al.. now that the foldable iPhone is out, my brand new 17 already seems like a relic, which is just the way I like it .

Are there any foldable androids at this point either?

just wish they would make the small version again. The one where you could hold it in one hand and reach the other side with your thumb to hit a button. They are all basically two handers now.
100% agree with this. I’m on my third iPhone 13 mini. I just keep buying them on eBay for this exact reason. This is why I’m actually considering this duo. It’s a little shorter and a little wider than the 13 mini, but if it fits easily in my hand without unfolding it, I may bite the bullet and upgrade. I’m sick of having a charger in every spot where I spend more than five minutes.

Glad to see Apple is once again leading the industry with Samsung's 2025 tech
they typically don't. they are a market follower these days. wait to see if there is demand, then come in a take the share

I know a person who has had a foldable samsung for about 3 years. He loves it because it can go in a pocket.

How do I putt an OtterBox on this thing?

, I can't fathom spending $2K on a fricking phone
Do you remember home computers? The were more than that and had a minute fraction of the power.
I get your point, but we are carrying fricking MAGIC in our pockets. Supercomputers that let us communicate across the world, watch things happen in real time like a damn Palantir.
We've got a cell phone, high quality video camera, word processor, calculator, flashlight, multi-function clock, game machine....I mean it's nigh on endless.
And fricking tweens get these.
The amount of power in our hands for what amounts to a pittance is frankly staggering.
A homeless person has more computing power than the Nazis at NASA who put a man on the moon

Yes, and I remember other electronics of the day (VCRs, larger televisions) were astoundingly expensive when they came out too. It's not really apples to apples though.
In the 90s if a family bought a home computer there wasn't any kind of substitute for it. It was new, it was novel, it was jaw dropping in the capability of what it could do. People hadn't seen that before.
Smart phones have been ingrained in society for 20 years now and pretty much everyone has one. I can go to best buy and get a smart phone that does every single thing a regular average joe would need to do and spend less than $200 and own it for years. There is simply no need to spend $2K on a phone just to take selfies and watch tiktok.

Well sure...you could drive a used toyota Tercel and get to where you need to go. No one is stopping you. But if you want to tool around in a Mercedes Benz that's 7x more expensive...that's your prerogative.
You are welcome to your flip phone. If your budget doesn't justify a new smartphone, that's fine too

Of course, I'm not telling people they shouldn't buy one or what they can or can't spend their own money on. Just pointing out that for 99% of people, $2K for a phone is a massive waste of money. And I'm not talking about a flip phone as an alternative, I'm talking about a completely fully functional smart phone for 1/10th the price.

Unless you're just so rich you have more money than you know what to do with, I can't fathom spending $2K on a fricking phone.
The 2TB 18 Pro is 2K as well. I think the lowest priced new iPhone is $1,200 now.
Apple and smart phones in general are adding such little upgrades to new models that it's certainly best just to buy the previous model which normally is free with a trade in.

Enjoy the crease that will appear on your foldable screen after a few weeks
