It absolutely existed.
I remember going to see it after tucking my kids into bed. I had just read them their favorite bedtime story the Berenstein Bears.
It also stands out bc it was right around the time Nelson Mandela passed.

I remember it too.
So I researched it and Sinbad played a genie type character once on a TV skit called "All That." It had nothing to do with Shaq's movie, but he and Shaq were both acting at the same time and I think had been in other movies together.
And, no, I am NOT "remembering" the 2017 skit Sinbad did. (I have never seen it before). Sinbad did play a genie once, but it was not in the Kazam movie. I haven't thought about Sinbad in probably 20 years, so I am positive it was from the 90's. It's just some of us get Shaq's movie character mixed up with Sinbad wearing a genie costume once on a TV show.

This Mandela effect this is so dumb and lazy - Shaq played the genie. Sinbad was just in a bunch of other movies at the time.
Now the Fruit of the Loom cornucopia was real, I seent it

In related news, I saw Sinbad somewhere in a video not long ago and he's not doing great. Time has been cruel to Sinbad.

We’re living in a simulation

I could have sworn this exact thread has been started many times before, but maybe it’s just the Mandela effect.

I swear I saw this movie on VHS back in like ’96 or ‘97 at my cousin’s house. It was called Shazaam and Sinbad was the genie. Like in an all out full purple genie outfit with the gold vest, big gold earrings, and that big arse smile of his.
The main kid was a boy named Max, around 10-11 years old. He had a little sister named Danielle. Their parents were divorced and the mom was always stressed working two jobs. The kids find this old, beat-up brass lamp in their dad’s storage unit while they’re cleaning it out for a garage sale. Max rubs it while joking around and BOOM green smoke everywhere, and mother fricking Sinbad appears floating there cracking wise arse jokes.
Sinbad’s says his name real damned sarcastic like and keeps calling the kids “little masters” but he actually grows to care about them. The bad guy was this greedy real estate developer who wanted to bulldoze their neighborhood to build condos. He somehow finds out about the genie and tries to steal the lamp.
There was this funny side kick that was Max’s best friend who was this chubby kid obsessed with comic books. No real love interest, but there was a scene where Sinbad tries to set the mom up on a terrible date for laughs.
Climax was at this big construction site at night. The developer traps the kids and the mom, Sinbad has to use his last wish to save them instead of freeing himself. He turns into a giant blue cloud to stop the wrecking ball and everything. In the end he gets to stay as a human (wearing normal 90s clothes like an OG baw) and becomes their cool uncle. They all eat pizza on the roof overlooking the city lights.
I remember the soundtrack had that one song that went “Shazaam, make a wish…” and the cover of the VHS had Sinbad with his arms crossed, floating above the lamp with the two kids looking up. We rented it at least twice.
Crazy that it’s just… gone now

In 94, Sinbad hosted a Sinbad the Sailor movie marathon for TNT where he dressed in Middle Eastern Genie type attire. That is what people are thinking about.

Never heard of this. I have heard of Kazaam with Shaq

I don't know that I saw it, but I remember it being advertised with Sinbad wearing a turban (perhaps silk-looking?)
